does the stuff work as well as it says ?
I’ll share my experience from two years ago.
I tried the stuff for about three months prior to an A race at altitude (6700) two years ago (June). Did well in the A race.
Went off of it then started back up about 1.5 months before another A race (6000 - Sept) and long enough for it to have a supposed effect. This race went well, but not as good as the first one in part due to not quite enough sleep in the days before the race and possibly being slightly over trained.
This is kind of limited background info - it was hard to tell whether it really helped or not. I think my training and tapering was better earlier in the season, and I was slightly overtrained (and not rested enough due to a new job) later in the season.
My power was significantly higher at threshold in Sept vs. March, but I believe that was mostly due to training not Optygen (SFRs, intervals, etc.). I did not do VO2 max tests before and after the optygen cycles, so I really can’t provide any sound physio conclusions.
All that babbling said - save your money and train smart. There is no magic or substitute for well thought out training and hard work. $50 per month = some cool useful products.
right on…good info thanks
.
This was a source of some discussion late last year over on G-World. There is an academic study, which seems to indicate the active ingredient in Optygen does not enhance oxygen uptake/delivery.
