Is anyone running this set-up? I’m interested in changing up from 52-36 as I changed from 155 to 165 cranks and now I’m running a bit short of gearing. I’ve read that 53/54 is about the limit for 110 BCD, which might explain why I’m struggling to find options. I found a 54-40 from Carbon-Ti (which is very expensive) and Rotor do a 54 but only in oval ring (which I might investigate further but would be a case of the ‘tail wagging the dog’ as I’ve never considered using oval rings). Grateful for a steer if anyone is aware of a product I’ve missed. Thanks.
Not running that setup myself, but it appears that a company called Gebhardt makes some. Up to 57T. https://www.gebhardt.cz/sites/default/files/upload/files/GTP-MOC-EURO-EN.pdf
I run them on one of my SRM setups, I know you’re looking for a double 54/40 but here is a 54T 110 5 bolt for you. I run a 54/38 on my TT bike.
Thanks for the info.
Thanks. I guess I could pair their 54T with a 40T from another manufacturer. Is that what you did with your 54-38?
I use rotor oval and at worst they are the same as regular chainrings. They have up to 55 for 110.
I went with a 54t from Pyramid and 38t Absolute Black (10sp) and have had no issues with shifting 12sp Ultregra on a dedicated trainer TT/Road setup.
For my TT setup I have SRM Origin (110/4 Bolt), 54T Dura Ace R9200 and 38T Dura Ace 9100 (11sp) with 12sp Dura Ace R9250. Again not an issue shifting or dropped chain.
I think all the issues with dropped chains earlier on was the massive gap between the large and small chain ring. For some reason or another not having more of a 16T difference sticks in my head. I did use a 54T with a 36T a few times and had no issues so I don’t really know the riddle.
I have a set of 56 outer and 40 inner in 110 BCD 5 bolt. I will sell them cheap. I ran them 2x.

Do it! Do it! They look amazing! 😈😈😈🤪🤪
Could be wrong but rotor do oval and round 54 no q ring. U might need to get in Europe there are a few places with worldwide shipping
I got qring 55 from rotorusa but I know most Thai athletes get the 54 or bigger from some European outlet maybe these guys

Hey, I’m in the exact same place as you! I’ve been hunting this setup, 165mm cranks (110 bcd 5 bolt, too), looking for 55/42, maybe 56. I’ll probably try to get a big dog cassette, too, as I’m a little more concerned with overall biggest and smallest combos than a smooth transition through the whole cassette.
Anyway, I wish I had experience with them, but the best looking option I’d previously never heard of are Alugear. Anyone have experience with them? https://alugear.com/chainrings-1x/287-15343-oval-aero-for-110-bcd-5b-road-gravel.html#/35-size-42t/10-color-red
I’m not sold on oval (they also have round) yet, but considering it just for fun. I doubt it makes much, if any, difference, but I had always liked them on the road bike in the past.
Googleing “110bcd 54t chainring” shows plenty of results on the first page. For the little ring you can always use any manufacturer that fits the bolt pattern. Little rings have no ramps of pins and just have the chain dropped onto them so they are very flexible.
Not quite what I’m looking for but thanks for the offer.
Great options on this website - thanks
.
Haha - yes, they look great!
Seems like there are different Rotor options elsewhere in Europe vs UK. Thanks
Yeah, mixing manufacturers seems the way to go - gives me quite a few options. When I first posted I didn’t realise I could do that. Every day a school day …
Here’s one to add to the list:

I guess I’m curious why you’re switching to a longer crank, especially since almost everyone on this Forum advocates going the other way??
