Anyone have any opinions? These are included in the kit that I am contemplating. I am 180+ and concerned about flex/brake rub, which I have experienced with some other wheelsets in the past.
The other option would be a DT RR 1450 Wheelset at a $400.00 upcharge.
I got them as a free upgrade when I bought my TT bike last year. Use them mostly for racing and a little bit of my training.
Only real comments about them are the freewheel ratchet is fairly loud compared to other wheels I’ve used. And I broke a spoke about a month ago (I’m 170 or so).
I have a couple sets of the predecessors (Alta Race). They are a bit lighter, a bit less stiff with full DT Revolution spokes but I haven’t been able to flex them much in crit racing at 165 lbs.
The hubs roll very nicely, and the wheels are really rather quick for 30mm rims. They are narrow, though, so consider riding 20/21 mm tires on them to mate properly with the rims.
I wouldn’t consider the DT’s a worthwhile expense. My Bonty x-lites (DT 240 hubs) aren’t all that much nicer.
I own a set of Alta Races (Autotec hubs), DV46C’s (DT 240 hubs), and Strikes(KT hubs). Certainly DT’s are nice hubs but they aren’t any smoother, etc than the KT’s. The price difference from Reynolds is not worth it to me for bladed spokes and DT hubs of the DV/SDV series. The cost delta from Solitude to Attack is $525-$1450=$925 for hubs and carbon rims. The Assaults to DV32C UL’s is $1450-$2550=$1100 for spokes/DT hubs. Similar differences between the other options.
