Just looking at an old frame. I started tri’s in 89 and always lusted after the Serotta’s but never got one. Anyone out there have any experience with this frame? I hardly saw them back in the day.

softrider,
Serotta claims to be able to make almost any of their present frames into almost any geometry. There are a few exceptions. On their lugged frames, the lugs pretty much determine the geometry. Their Fierté is a “stock” frame that they will not customize.
They presently make a CX II steel frame that is primarily designed for triathlon, duathlon and time trialing.
They also make a Colorado III steel frame road bike that is very similar to their csi signature steel frame road bike. You could get a Colorado III custom built with almost any geometry, but the CX II is beefed up to stiffen the bottom bracket area to reduce frame flex that you would experience on the Colorado III.
I’m assuming you are talking about an older used frame … maybe from about 93-95. If so, these were nicely made steal frames.
I worked in a pro shop during college early to mid 90s, and sold a few of these. They were tig welded (rather than lugged) Colorado Concept tubing. Not particulalry light but very well made and very pretty. I don’t recall the geometry. All the ones I saw were 700c wheels.
If you have a specific frame in mind with serial number, contact Serotta and they will be able to tell you geometry and other details. Serotta is one of the most reputable frameshops around, I think you would find it as well made as anything you will find.
I have a Serrota Colorado LT which is tig-welded from Tange Prestige tubing. It is from the early 90’s. It survived being on a roof-rack that came off my car at 75 mph with only a small dent in the down-tube. That was 4 years ago and it is still going strong.
