Open water swimming near Spokane, WA

I am in Spokane this weekend for Hoopfest. Hoping to find time to get a few open water swims in. I know there are alot of lakes in the surrounding area yet don’t want to be run over by a jet ski or ski boat. Any suggestions?

Medical Lake is the site of the Troika Triathlon. I’ve done the race a couple of times and one year I swam the day before the race w/o issues.

Gonzo is right, Medical Lake is the best lake to swim in, if you don’t mind some yuck in the water. No motor boats, easy asscess, just follow the signs heading west from Spokane on I-90, and follow the signs to Medical Lake and Waterfront Park. The water is warmer there than other areas. Look directly across the lake lengthwise and youwill see two white aerators that look like docks. It is supposedely one mile around the first aerator and back, and 1.2 around the second and back. However, I think it is a bit less than that. If you swim to the second, be aware, they have some rubber pipes in the water coming from the aerator, they are at or near the surface, so you must swim under or over. No big deal, just be aware of them. Most other lakes either don’t have public access (like Liberty Lake), or they allow power boats (like Cd’A).
