Olympic Size Backyard Pool

Has anyone seen anyone with a full-length 50 meter Olympic sized backyard pool?

Asking out of sheer curiosity. I don’t even own a home with a backyard, and I’m unable to exercise right now, so just dreaming really.

I’ve seen some 25m single lane lap pools but not a 50m.

I’m having one built soon. I will share plans and advice as the project progresses.

This assumes I win $1.9 Billion in three hours.

I’ve never seen a 50M residential lap pool, even in mega mansion house tours on YouTube. 25M / 25Y pools are out there, and plenty of swim in place spas (Endless, Master Spa). I built a 20M lap pool in my backyard, with some design help from folks here on Slowtwitch. You can find my build thread via a search.

I remember you building this. Outstanding job!

Mine is 45 feet does that count?

Looks real nice - even with a wave break lane line! Kudos on this. How much spill do you typically get? Cheers

I bought an apartment next to a sporting center with gym, soccer & paddel fields and a 25m pool, which is outdoor and gets a balloon-roof for cold season. The swimming pool is literally 200m far from my bedroom, therefore, with a yearly subscription, I consider it backyards. I share it with others for sure, but going for a splash right after a long bike ride is priceless

There was one a few years ago but I can’t remember all of the details.

It was a 2 or 3 lane 25m pool and a large lane 50m pool all in one. Had a boom across.

Well done! Now I gotta go clean the coffee off my tablet …

Well, back to dreaming.

@dktxracer, i followed your pool updates on Slowtwitch. Awesome. Is it getting a lot of use?

I was looking at GHW Bush’s (former) house on google maps and saw this (the one with lane lines).

John E. du Pont did as part of his Foxcatcher sports complex he built on his farm outside of Philadelphia. Then he ended up murdering one of the athletes. . . . Big pools like that, between the maintenance and utility bills, can be stressful.

A friend of mine built a 40 meter 2 lane pool in his backyard. The original plans where for a 50 meter pool but the city required a setback from the neighbors property even though the neighbor approved of the plans. It is beautiful!

Google “Tiger Woods House”.

Hello ajthomas and All,

Ex President Bush had good reason to have a great swim pool …

Getting shot down in WWII in the Pacific Ocean must have made an impression …

At an event at the Pensacola Naval Aviation Museum we attended … years ago … a group of about 7 former POW’'s led by Adm. Stockdale were on stage before the audience doing a round table discussion of their experience as a POW in Vietnam.

https://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/

When they were speaking the audience was so quiet it was eerie …

One of the former POW’s had served in a USMC unit with me, but he was not a Naval Aviator yet. He asked me if flying was fun and I recommended it to him and said … it was the most fun you could have with your shoes on.

He entered flight training shortly thereafter and after getting his wings was later deployed to Vietnam where he flew more than 200 missions before being shot down.

The event was also attended by ex President Bush who gave a speech (and told the story about being shot down and saved by the sub) after being introduced by Adm. Boorda, CNO.

Adm Boorda committed suicide not too long thereafter much to our surprise …

Boorda, the only enlisted man to become chief of naval operations, took his life in 1996 just before he was to be quizzed by Newsweek reporters about the Combat Vs — tiny bronze letters standing for “valor.” In a suicide note “to my sailors,” he said he felt disgraced.
