Old Hed Disk

So what’s the story with these old Hed disks? Worth picking up or only looking for a home in the skip?

That’s not my disc but I’ve been to view it. I had a yap to my LBS (Botany Downs) owner and he reccomended spending the bit more to get a newer disc than that shape.
Why don’t you just get a wheel cover? Wheelbuilder ship to NZ, I got my cover off them for $180 NZD shipped pre the duathlon nationals.

 Small world. Did you look at the tri-spokes too?

Nope, I just know that disc cause he’s been trying to sell it on trade for ~3-4 months. I viewed it in like July before deciding to get a wheel cover. I don’t need a set of H3’s as I bought a set of Jet 60s off MSB before they went out of business at fire sale prices. That’s what I’ll be riding with a wheel cover at Rotovegas and Tri AKL…

Yer it’s a small world but at this time of the night pretty much only kiwi’s and aussies are awake on the board …

True enough, although the UK should be waking up now.

Well I’ll see you at Vegas. Off up to Akl tomorrow ahead of the jog on Sunday, so was seriously thinking about the tri-spokes as I was passing through. The disk was a cure ball for $500. The other option was some Profile Altair 80s that Hot Cycles have for $1700, but I was a bit worried about the rim width on my Argon.

those older heds are still pretty quick for the $$$
i went for a powertap wheel instead that will accept my wheel cover. make of that what you will

Thanks. Have a Quarq, so no need for the PT.

wheel cover all the way then for you ( the hed is still ok if you’re not a super clyde )
.

Also try Bike Barn in Manukau if you’re coming from the south. They often have zipps / token’s on close out (it’s a discount/outlet store). If you’re interesting in Mavics Cycle City in the building beside bike barn have a range as well. Bike 75 / iBike was hocking off Renyolds a couple months ago as well, they might still have a cheap set.

What AG / distance you doing at vegas? I’m M30-34 sprint (that will make me hard to pick, I’m one of 2…)

One AG up and HalfIM. I’m assuming the half is the same venue / day as the other races…

Thanks for info.

How long did the cover take to get here?

About a week. It might have even been 3 days. If you’re going to get one make sure you order the whip, lock tool & crack pipe with it cause they’re WAY cheaper from them than here in NZ.

grr! back to the drawing board, the guy selling me the PT has just emailed to say his place was burgled, among the missing items 1 powertap laced to an open pro rim with sram red cassette.

the search continues ( at least I still have my cash. )

That sucks. I had the same sort of thing happen to me last year. I turned up to buy something off a dude and he was on the phone to the cops reporting his car being broken into and my thing + 3 other things he was selling that day missing. There was smashed glass all over his car park floor as well.

on the bright side, another thread pointed me to the neuvation clearance, just getting the visa sorted out
.

I bought a very similar one on ebay a few months back. its got a little wobble in it, but nothing too bad. I have been wondering the same thing, whether it is worth it or not. The rim is thinner so the brake needs adjusting, or just dealing with when you switch to that wheel.

I bought an old one a while back of ebay… an ooold one. Had a 7 speed cassette on it. That wheel flexed too much under power, so I never rode it in a race. Ended up tossing it in the dumpster.
