Amidst my late night viewing of bicycle manufacturers i decided to go a little Italian. With the montello chrono bike from pinarello i think i am in love.

it’s kind of the same idea as the jag/benz/bmw/etc./rolex/etc vs infiniti/timex/etc
functionally, there are much cheaper, more effective bikes (a p3 is better in the wind tunnel,) but it’s kind of a sex appeal/status symbol.
i’d love to be in the team van though, where they have 9+ of them, as well as the wheels. i think i’d cream
i think those are also about the most expensive frames in the world.

I get more wood from that Orbea TT that Mayo rode.
I rode a few times with a pro who rode those on his former team (hint hint). I wanted to hear how much he liked them and he said they were literally junk. The frame was well over 4lbs and the team broke a number of them. Thats why some of them rode a road frame with aerobars. I guess this one is a new version, I am speaking of the one vdb is on.
Agreed, it is a sexy looking bike. But in most applications, not much better than the Leader frame on ebay. How about the swan shaped pinarello Indurain and Riis rode?
If you brought that to China you could get 10 of them made.

There was a thread a while ago (in the old montello era) discussing similar things. that a p3/blade/etc, all the high end, more reasonably priced bikes are much more functional and actually perform better than the uber sex object montellos
ok, that is what I thought, they are better in the wind tunnel because I read it anecdotally on the internet.
that is where most of such information is researched.
Do we know if a P3C or a P3SL is more aerodynamic yet?

well…until other results are published, i’d buy it. as well, the frame has been changed this year, so if it was the uber-aero bike, why change it?

yeah, but the original bike WAS carbon, it was also priced a lot higher than the newer model is.
you could be right, it might be nice to have published data for all bikes.
that said, if i had to buy a bike…it wouldn’t be that one. if i was GIVEN any bike…i’d take that one in an instant.
