Official IMLP race day thread

Can’t believe no one’s started one, unless I missed it. Looks like some serious off and on rain over there!

Chip Berry from Team Snapple Lytewater posts the fastest swim split on the day in 47:58.

J,

I’m on course & conditions are good in town.

For the 1st loop, Twelsiek split 1-min faster than Bjorn did last yr (2:14:xx).

Yeah, the live coverage looks like the weather is overcast in town, but not raining. Arrggg…wish I was there, but then I would have missed the biggest south swell of the year here!

I miss being there as well on race day. In years when my wife was racing and I was volunteering/spectating, I used to grab coffee and a bagel after the swim had ended and stake out a spot near the hot corner to watch everyone come through town.

I got caught in a downpour on my ride this morning, also made me think back to IMLP of years past.

Best of luck to everyone racing today!

I’m surprised by how many AG men had significantly faster swim splits than the pro men.

You get the best AG athletes on the east coast and a pretty competitive but thin pro field and that’s bound to happen. Most of the pros in the race are not know for being first out of the water.

That’s my idea of a great Ironman…

looks like an interesting race on the Men’s side… Maik rode sooooo fast (hard) it will be interesting to see if he has legs for the marathon. Women’s side… same for Tereza.

Anyone know what has happend to Hillary Biscay?

First out of wather…but out of topp 10…??

Anybody onsite could confirm the weather?

Cheers,
Alex

Awesome 4:37 bike for Twelsiek!

Will be hard to chase him down with that lead.

The womens race looks great with Tereza Macel out to a good lead but a lot of strong runners behind her…if Sam McGlone is feeling goo I like her to win

Andrew

Conditions for the bike seem pretty good (although I can’t comment what it’s like away from town).

The run is going to be fairly warm/humid for LP standards.

Any news on Dev? Maybe something wrong with the timing, but no finish time on the bike.

Bike = 5:29:46

Guess he is on track then -thanks!

Anyone know what kind of bike Tereza Macel was riding?

Do not be surprised. Same story every race… one or two ex-Div1 guys blow themselves up on the swim and ending up nowhere close to the AG podium.

Macel, like the rest of Team TBB, rides a Cervelo. A P4, per Brian. Thanks for the correx.

And what happened to Biscay? She’s doing her fifth Iron-distance race of the year on her fourth different continent. I’m sure there’s a method to the madness (other than having been brought along by Sutton), but all that criss-crossing of the globe for all that pounding can’t be good. Hope for the best for her anyway, as she seems like a good person with a sunny attitude who truly enjoys what she does — plus, she’s an ex-swimmer. Big points from me!

Macel was on a P4.
