Off season diet (1)

Besides pizza and beer (l like scotch too), what do you eat to keep your weight or lose some? I will not put in the same hours as last year because I’m not doing an IM next summer, but I will workout without as much volume. Do you have more protein, just eat less? Thanks.

Funny, my off season diet will consist of all the stuff I’ve given up all summer. Pizza, beer, ice cream, wings, hamburgers…the list of food I intend to gorge on for a few days after Mightyman next week goes on and on…

After a few days though I will start to feel all bloated and crappy and will go back to a better diet. My diet during training is very similar to my ‘trying to maintain weight diet’ with the exception of certain foods before workouts and post workout recovery drinks. In between it’s lots of protein, fruits and veggies.

I eat the same thing all year around, but then I don’t do the IM distance. On lighter weeks or days I will skip the 2’nd or 3’rd snickers/power bar etc. I’d say its all about portion control and maintaining a balanced diet. Are you really trying to lose weight AFTER doing the IM?

Post IM it’s two weeks of food debauchery. All the crap I rationed/denied myself during the season. Arthur Guinness comes over quite a bit for discussions late into the evening…
After 2 weeks. Stop cold turkey and go back to normal “training” diet.

You guys are stronger than me! I’ve put 10lbs on since IMLP!!! I wanted to take a mental break as well as a physical break, now I’m back teaching, coaching, and being with my kids as much as possible so I’ve been lazy, and once your lazy, it takes some resolve to get back into the swing. I lost a good amount for the IM, but I’d like to lose more, scary to think about because its the hardest I’ve ever worked out in my life, and I couldn’t get down to my desired weight. Oh well, life goes on…

It’s already killing me… I’ll have people over to watch the football game on the weekend, and usually try to have some beers on hand like a good host, then folks will bring more and I end up with a surplus. At this point, I actually have no room left in my beer fridge as of Monday. I try to drink it down a little during the week, but then on the weekend the cycle repeats. During IM training, I made it a point to keep the beer fridge as free of temptation as possible, and it actually worked, but now I no longer have that IM axe hanging over my head. I’m up about 4 lbs in 4 weeks so far…

Wendys - lots of burgers and fries.

You may find you have an easier time losing weight with less exercise. WIth IM training you get reallllllly hungry (well, I don’t know that from experience. But I know how hungry I get training for halves) and need a lot of calories - it truly can be difficult to lose weight.

Moderate exercise + caloric deficit = most effective weight loss.
