seeing as how my 21st birthday is coming up next weekend, i thougth i would get some recommendations on some good brewskies! (being the college student i am, my alcohol is primarily beast (milwaukees best) and natty light (natural light). so, in light of the fact that i’ll definetly be going “all out” that night, what should my beverage(s) of choice be?
ps… this is on topic, b/c beer is, in my opinion, the perfect recovery beverage to go with a meal after a long day’s workout!
My drinking strategy is go for quality early, quantity later. Guiness on tap is my favorite starter. usually one, two at the most. After that it doesn’t really matter. Everything else pales (literally and figuratively) in comparison.
ooohhhh yeahhhh… that’ll be the next night, considering i’m on the east coast and we dont get that here. however, the day after, i’m heading out to colorado so that will definetly be on tap! man, that stuff is good!
Finally, a topic about which I have some expertise! If you are asking what beer to drink the night of your 21st birthday to get ripped, stick with the Beast or some other of the “dirty-water” variety. You don’t want to drink good beer all night – too expensive and bigger hangover. If you are asking what beers you should drink now that you are an adult, there are way too many good ones to list, but here are a bunch of my faves: Stone Brewing Arrogant Bastard Ale anything brewed by Ommegang Brewery (Cooperstown, NY) or Unibroue Brewery (Quebec) Humboldt Brewing Hemp Ale anything from Rogue brewery (esp. Dead Guy Ale and Morimoto Soba Ale) Echigo (small Japanese brewer)
well, since you’re drinking water, er I mean, light beer now…your best bet is to (dump the horrible crap you’ve been drinking) go with an ale that is not too tart on the tastebuds. My first recommendation is Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Warsteiner is a very approachable beer that tastes damn good, as is Killians, Red Seal Ale, Great Adirondack Pale Ale (or Amber for that matter), and alot of college guys like Newcastle>which is a bigger richer beer, but righteous.
What I say to avoid is a big black beer–especially if it’s your first time venturing out of the “high school” beer that you’ve been drinking.
(hey, you’re turning 21…I’ve got to bust your balls a little…lol)
Bass is good, and so is Harp. Any of these will be much better than your grass cutting beer. Oh, and your intestines will thank for it as well.
Don’t get drunk on purpose. I know at 21 it seems cool, but you make yourself vulnerable to all sorts of misery when you’re not in control. Drink Guinness Stout if you’re an athlete; more protein than carbs, low calorie (same as skim milk by volume), great taste. Happy birthday. Don’t drive.
Though I’m partial to substantial beers like Guiness, Bass and Anchor Steam myself, I agree with kittycat - you shouldn’t jump headfirst into dark beers since they taste a ton different than your cheap stuff.
Pilsners are a much less harsh than a stout or porter, or even a hoppy IPA for that matter. Rolling Rock is a pilsner (though not a good one.) Pilsener Urquell is perhaps THE pilsner, since it is brewed in the town of Pilsen, Czech Republic, where the style was invented.
Here’s a list of the Top 50 beers (not sure who’s top 50…)
