Who has raced in the Oceanman open water swim series? As a recent migrant to Florida, I just realized I’m just 45 minutes from the race venue in Miami.
There is a 5k and 10k option, the 5k seems to resemble an IM swim (where I’m usually in the 1:05-1:10 range) with a course laid out for a few laps between bouys. The 10k is more point-to-point and supposed to be true open water. I’m not great at sighting. I’m leaning towards the 10k, but would appreciate some intel on what to expect.
I’ve done the Lago d’Orta one in Italy. It is a bit hard to give advice, because they have local teams organising them. Like an Italian team, a Spanish team etc. The Italians were not very organised, important information came very late etc. However, now I have done that event once and know how it works, I’d do it again.
Well said. There are many incredibly beautiful races in southern Europe. And yes it is all a little rinky dinky but thats the charm. And really its not that complicated with a single sport. If you cant get your answers from the organization there are other ways with a little effort. And very true that having done a race once does make it easier the second time. Especially with hotels and knowing the in and outs of the race itself.
Yes, it was with information such as how on earth am I going to get to the start from my hotel. Only about a week before did they send emails sending locations of official carparks with shuttle busses (and I had emailed and asked about transport options and got no useful info back). But, would be much easier a second time.
In Italy, the safety boat support and on water organisation was excellent.
I’ve done several of their events (Dubai x3, Crete, Phuket), and all were well organized with good safety in the water. If the Miami one is that close to you, I’d give it a go.
