I was just in Newport last weekend, and we enjoyed Easton Bay Beach. There is another beach to the east in Sachuest Bay. I am not sure what the rules are for open ocean swimming there, but there were lifeguards at Easton Bay Beach. Lots of red algea/seaweed though.

Corona Del Mar Beach. Don’t pay to park, just park above the beach on Jasmine, Larkspur or Marguerite. There is ALWAYS someone swimming around the buoys. I would stick with swimming around the inner set of buoys…
Thanks. I’ll check it out tomorrow. Is any time better than the other? Need a longer run tomorrow too
People are usually there early mornings and later afternoon’s. The earlier the better only because it is the weekend and might be more difficult to find parking. If you go early you’ll be able to find a spot right on Ocean Blvd. Also, you can leave your stuff at the north lifeguard station (the one closest to the rock jetty) that is where we/open water swimmers leave everything, it will be fine. How long is your run tomorrow? You can run to Crystal Cove from CdM. It’s actually a very nice run. Or you can run the Back Bay Dr loop which is 6 miles (Jamboree to Eastbluff via Back Bay Dr)
a friend had a wetsuit stolen from the beach there a couple years ago…best leave the wallet in the car.
Thank you to the dude that posted the buoy distances.
.
Prob go early am then and run after 6 to 10 miles tomorrow depending on how I feel. Thanks for all the help
Sure, no problem!
Yeah, definitely leave a wallet/jewelry/valuables in the car. But, I’ve never had an issue.
Oh, I’m a chick
Corona Del Mar is a nice spot to swim, very little surf in/out.
you can also hit Crystal Cove. It’s a little less protected, so you’ll find a bit more chop and surf than Corona Del Mar.
a leg from the life guard tower to the stream inlet (bridge) is about 0.4 mile (the way I swim, I get about 1/2 mile out of it!)
When you swim at Crystal Cove, do you swim at Reed Point…where Pacific Coast Tri swim takes place or more in front of the cottages?
Pacific Coast Tri location.
sorry about that. The one time I neglect looking at somebody’s handle…
