Oblique muscle stain-please advise

Strained the right oblique muscle body boarding and it hurts! Anybody else had this type of injury? Did you continue training? Went swimming and that made it worse. On the run is feels like a pretty good cramp in the side. On the bike, its ok as long as the road is smooth. Iced, heated it, rested it. Guess it takes weeks to go away and of course I have an oly race in a week. I promise never to bitch again at ballplayers (Jeff Kent, Milton Bradley) with an oblique strains. What a PITA. Your oblique muscle is the flat layer of muscle on top of (external) and underneath (internal) your rib cage.

Back in fall 2002 I was running in xc nats and had a cramp in my stomach. I kept pushing and the cramp got worse. As i started kicking in towards the finish I ended up tearing the muscle in my stomach. I believe it is my internal oblique. I have dealt with it since then. I took a year off from competitive running and just cycled but it never healed. I guess I have a lot of scare tissue on it. It does not bother me at all when I swim or cycle. However when i race anything from 10 miles to the marathon (really pushing myself and going into oxygen debt) it bother me tremendously. It feels like a knife going into my stomach. I’ve had massage on it but hasn’t seemed to help all that much. I recently just had acupuncture hoping that will help so i can run the marathon to my full potiental. I am also considering rolfing massage.

Oblique tears are just nasty and painful!
