Obama's handling of the gulf. Worse then New Orleans?

What would the democrats say if it was George Bush and his Big oil buddies who were in charge and did NOTHING! Again Politicians MAKE ME SICK!!!

I don’t see the two as comparable. One was a natural disaster, something that this country deals with on a regular basis. The other is man-made disaster which even the “experts” at BP can’t seem to figure out.

What is it you would have had the Obama administration do differently?

Maybe nail Bp balls to the wall, have them start cleaning up the wetlands with their people. Maybe he could have gone there and shown a prsence himself and took control of the situation. Funny how the manmade disater is going to effect way more people then the natural disaster did. I think Obama is dropping the ball worse then Bush ever did with the hurricane. lets get something straight though I dislike both presidents. What are we at day 37 and obama has yet to show up ? maybe he is working on bad information that his people have ginen him thay only 500 barrels a day are leaking out. Lets just say a barrel a day is to much. BP is going to pump mud in there this morning? Might even make it worse. So do they have a plan tommorow that is up and ready to go ? I mean WTF have a back up for your back-up. And have them ready to go. They should have rotating teams getting things ready to try. Not " Oh snickers this one did not work back to the drawing board over some tea and biscuits and lets drag our feet and try something else next week." that is their attitude it would seem. After the first try did not work I would have been like back up we are taking over.

Frankly, I don’t think the federal government has the knowledge, expertise, or equipment to fix a leaking well a mile below the surface.

Well they should have some by now ??? and should have started after day 1 of spill.

Trust me, I’m as much of an environmentalist as anyone, but I don’t see the two comparable.

Katrina - people were dying and the federal and state government had the sole knowledge and resources to save them

Oil Spill - no one is dying and BP has the sole knowledge and resources to save them.

Having said that, I agree that Bush would have ben crucified over this for being a big oil guy. It’s definitely Obama’s fault for caving in to the right on this issue…and that is exactly what he did. I don’t think anyone actually thought “drill baby drill” was his plan all along. Maybe he got some kickbacks from the oil companies, so he’s the dirty politician that we all know, but as a matter of public policy…“drill baby drill! Drill baby drill!”

I hate to say it, but this couldn’t have happened at a better time. As much as I hate the spill and how it will effect that environment and gulf economies, it’s better to have this happen now and shut those mother f’ers up for once, than to just keep drilling.

You really think the government can do a better job trying to fix this problem than private enterprise can?

I don’t get Americans sometimes. They are the first to cry foul when there is too much government intervention yet the first to blame governments when there is not enough.

Maybe nail Bp balls to the wall, have them start cleaning up the wetlands with their people.

Under what authority could he do this? What law would Obama use?

He’s the President he can make his own laws, can’t he?
.

Obama did ‘force’ the resignation of higher ups in GM when he felt they were incompetent - I suppose he could force BP’s hand here as well, except of course that BP is a foreign corporation.

All Obama/big government supporters will say “its two different things”, but if it was Bush, they would be screaming for his head.

So would you be in favor of opening up more land drilling, where the risk of a disaster of this scale is much lower?

If this blowout occured on a land rig it could have been fixed in a working day.

Since Democrats tend to believe more in big government I can understand that more would go after Bush however, what surprises me is the number of Republicans complaining about lack of government involvement.

It reminds me that the fight in the u.S really isn’t about principle or the fundamental difference between those relying on government versus individualism, it is simply between GOP and Democrats.

When things get this out of hand they have to. I could see waiting two weeks to get involved. But also make a BIG showing at least two days after to let them know you are watching.

I am so against big government, but since there is already a govt body supposed to be monitoring this type of thing and they fail, yeah I have some fault with them.

It just says again to me that the govt doesnt do a lot of things right.

Make BP handle, pay for all of it, if they go bust oh well.

If they can’t handle it get some one else in there who can.

If ifs and buts were candies and nuts…

It’s coming on to our playground and effecting us thats by what authority. It is hitting our shore’s. Screw whatever law. I dont think any foriegn body is going to resent us for doing so except maybe for England and BP. Wonder what the queens stance on this is.
What the hell are they doing when they give permits to drill in the ocean. They have fucked up the ecology for who knows how many years. Not to mention the lives of the people that live there. A lot longer then Katrina. Do they not want coningent plans from applicants in case this goes wrong or this goes wrong. Dont tell me there are to many variables. I would want plan’s for if there was a leak at every point of drilling. In other words if it broke here or there what are you going to do to stop it and what are your contigency plans if that does not work. amybe I am being very niave and they do. I would hope there were a lot smarter people then me (By a big margin, not hard to do :.) handing out these permits.
I got to go ride to peddie now and swim in some clean water.

Not much point in discussing this any further, I guess.

You are right it’s about bettering ourselves so we can help us and our buddies get rich.
