Outlawing tobacco = MILLIONS (if not billions) of tax income lost.
That’s why they don’t outlaw it! But honestly, that’s fine. I sleep very well at night knowing that I get taxed less because the government is taxing tobacco companies and idiots that smoke.
Don’t get me wrong; my initial post is NOT a protest of this tax increase… I think it’s great!! I was just protesting that someone linked this tax to a tax on the poor. Rich or poor, you’re a dumbass if you smoke, and you deserve to get taxed.

Secondly, let me clarify, when I say “stupid”, I mean “no common sense / I don’t listen to the basic information that is presented to me daily / I hear all these bad things about smoking but I think I’m smarter than the rest of the world”. Those with legitimate mental disabilities, I harbor no ill-will, and don’t I would never want the government to treat them worse.
I don’t think (again, I’m assuming here, so if I’m wrong, I’m sorry) there is a high correlation of medically-classified lack of intelligence with smoking though; Forrest Gump didn’t smoke!!

Let’s see you’re a triathlete, you ride a bike outside on the road, very dangerous, you swim in open water OMG! I’m betting on occasion you eat something that tastes good, but is not good for you and may even drink alcohol or do other “Stupid” things…I’m guessing “Thrill seeking” related. As far as linking it to the poor it’s a PERFECT link to the above line. “Taxing” has nothing to do with Redistributing wealth because if they can find something the people are against that poor people do they will tax the crap out of it. It has EVERYTHING to do with MORE MONEY FOR THE GOVERNMENT.

bike tax is already starting to happen in some parts of the country
We have a 1% local “Fast food tax”, seriously, and I’m in the midwest. I hate to use the following poem because it its Soooo overused, but it is also SOoooo appropriate. People really need to open their eyes and start realizing PEOPLE ARE DIFFERENT. We do different things, enjoy different things and should be able to have the same choice to do those things, stupid in your eyes or not, as you do to do your things. The second you fall into the trap of “Hey you shouldn’t have your stuff because I think it’s dumb” you’ve fallen into the trap of being the next victim.
