I am buying a new pair of sunglasses and am between a pair of oakley’s vs. rudy project. If anyone has any insight, I would appreciate your help. Thank you.
I have several pairs of both. Mostly a style thing. I get both cheap (since they, especially Oakley are way overpriced) via club deals and whatnot that most of us get. I personally like the Oakleys just a little better from a style/fit perspective. I think both have very good optics.
It’s a personal choice … I’ve worn both in the past and find Rudy to be a better pair for Triathlons. Rydons are light and let lots of air flow and not fog.
Save your money. Both of these brands make good sunglasses but the same technology is used in other brands at a fraction of the cost because they don’t have the huge marketing budgets. I’ve used Rudy Projects in the past and will say that I like them a lot. But I’ve been using Aruba Sports for the past season and I like them just as much. They have the same qualities and are 50% of the price and you could get interchangable lenses.

Note, these glasses are used by Olympians in other sports like beach volleyball, running, etc. I like the Wave 2’s that are for cyclists.
I like Rudy’s. they are very light!
As many have said, both make a quality product. However, when it comes to the issue of service, Rudy Project wins it for me. Their lens & helmet warranties grant peace of mind, keeping the product in good working order for a good, long while.
I assume you know about

Buy a pair of Rudy Project and get a free backpack, helmet, spare lens, t-shirt, and if you follow the USAT link you can get a free sportswatch if you order by March 14th. $250 worth of stuff, although only the helmet and the spare lens really have value for me.

I like my Smith Frontline, but since they have been discontinued I am tempted…
Go for the Rudy package deal and get the NOYZ. they tested fastest in the wind tunnel compared to all other Rudy’s as well as many competitors. How fast?, well the difference between glasses was as big as the difference between some aero wheels. We obsess about which aero wheels to get, so there you go : )
I prefer Rudy’s because of the adjustable nosepieces…
+1
I could never really get Oakleys to fit comfortable because of the nosepiece. I had M Frames and Half Jackets and neither fit me very well. I switched to Rudy’s because they began sponsoring my team last year. I have the Rydon glasses and they are the best I’ve worn yet.
I agree with the masses here on Rudys. I’ve had many pair, and I have yet to break them or wear them out. They adjust to each face individually, which is much better than my experience with Oakleys. The nosepieces adjust to ANY position, and also never slip. They are great, and the deal they have is pretty cool. The addition on many models of 2 or 3 lens colors is quite a bonus as well.
I have had both, my preference is for the Rudy Project frames. As others have stated, the adjustability is really key, especially when you are going to have them on your face for a long time in a race.
I just went ahead and bought another pair on e-rudy to take advantage of the killer deal with the backpack, hat, watch, helmet, dishwasher, key fob, tshirt, ginsu knife, and I know I am forgetting something…
I don’t know anyone who ever paid full price for a pair of Rudy’s?
Seems like their business model is “bro deal”?
Which model of Oakleys and which model of RP’s are best for running (as opposed to tri’s/cycling)?
Oakleys for me. Their optics are the best and I love their fit. I have 2 pairs of Oakley Radars and love them for biking and running. Expensive but worth it. The fit on the Radars is way better than the old M Frames.
Both companies have exceptional customer service (RP warranteed a helmet and Oakley has replaced 2 pairs of glasses that I broke).
I’m a huge fan of both brands, but I have a small preference for Rudy Project’s over Oakleys. That is more of a performance issue than a style issue, for me.
If you have the money for them, I would recommend spending it, rather than going budget, you shouldn’t be disappointed with either brand.
Which model of Oakleys and which model of RP’s are best for running (as opposed to tri’s/cycling)?
My favorite pair of shades in the RP arsenal is the SportMask Performance. I know some here have had issues with its durability, but I’ve lost only one lens in the past year-and-a-half, and that was due to my own carelessness. The SportMask is light as nothing and offers a good, broad field of vision for both running & cycling. If masks aren’t your thing, look into either the Noyz or the Exowind; personal experience with the latter is favorable but is currently cost-prohibitive to go with the black-red setup I desire. :^|

We’re finding the new Noyz to be our rockstar for runners (and triathletes and cyclists). Its adjustable temples and nose-pieces make sure it doesn’t bounce and the field of vision is really good.
i have both the Oakley Half Jackets and RP Ekynox SX’s.
The optics of the oakleys are better and overall durability is better as well. One thing that annoys me about the Ekynox is the little metal screws that hold the nose piece in place rust rather quickly, even with taking care to keep the glasses clean after use. Also, the rubber pads that slip on the end of the nose piece have fallen off more times than i can count and I’ve had to replace them twice. The lenses also seem to scratch more easily.
Price being equal I’ll choose Oakley every time.
