Oakley Radars vs. Flak Jackets

I know there has been a lot of talk about the Oakley Radars lately and a couple people mentioned the Flak Jackets, but, very few. Before getting side-lined with a pulled hammy, I had the opportunity to ride with both glasses (pictures from the website below). I really like the Radars, but, I think I prefer the Flak Jackets. Both have the hydrophobic lenses that are incredible. However, the Flak Jacket seems to fit much better under the LG Rocket. Also, the Flak Jackets do not stick out as far on the sides. Finally, the Flak Jackets have a smaller lens area which seems far less likely to fog up b/c the heat and moisture is not trapped under the lens. I think I like the Flak Jackets better.

Has anyone else tried both? What are your thoughts?

If you’ve got a melon head like me, the Radars will work better. Love mine. Wifey gave me a pair for our anniversary, and they really are the bee’s knees. They are one of those things I would never have bought for myself (as I have a pair of M-Frames that worked fine) but now that i have them I wouldn’t give them back. Suprising to me, that hydrophobic coating actually works. I figured it for a gimmick.

I bought a pair of Radar’s and thought they’d be relegated to the “I’ll sell it on slowtwich” bin, but no way, nuh uh. I love these things and probably a bit more than my Pro-M’s. The coating works wonders and after a race where I got sweat, water, and lords knows what else on the Radar lenses, they were perfectly clear. My Pro-M’s cannot do that. I’m sold.

I was also skeptical about the Radars being that much better than the M-Frames. They are. I doubt I will ever go back to the M-Frames. They really are that much better. However, now that I have discovered the Flak Jackets, not sure how much I will use the Radars. Same lens properties, but, the Flak Jackets seems to fit my face better.

Well I, like the other poster, have a melon head so the Radar fits me better. As with everything, it’s all about fit.

They make a radar with straight artms that should fit under a tt helmet better.

I just got a set of flak jackets yesterday as an early father day gift. Since I have been using half jacket for a while now, I chose the flak as they are somewhat similar. Tonight will be my first ride with them so I’m excited to see how well the Hydrophobic lense works.

It would have been nice to just buy the hyrophobic lense for my half jackets, but according to the Sunglass Hut, they will be phasing them out soon and not making them.

I love the new Radars and the new coating is an improvement on the M Frames. The picture you showed is of the Radar Range, the largest lens of the 3 Radars, I would try the Radar Paths, the smallest of the 3 lenses they might fit you better. I am hoping the come out with a wider spectrum of lenses for the replacements when they come out.

I’ve tried both, and definitely prefer the radars…
The flak jacket is nice, but seems to much like the half-jacket. Thats not a bad thing, but the radars are pretty sweet.

btw,any of you guys might be selling their flak jackets? im currently looking for a white pair and having trouble finding one.

I have and love the Radar Path glasses. They fit snugly under my Spiuk TT aero helmet. In fact, I like the fact that they are a little snug because once I put on the glasses then the helmet, they just lock into place and don’t move after that. Usually, with Pro M-frames, my TT helmet would move around a little. Not so with this combination. The Radars are superior to the M-frames, no doubt. Never had the Flak Jackets but I’d like to try them.

I just got a pair of Flak Jackets and love them. I had the same issue with the Radar in that they stuck out to far on the sides and didn’t really fit my head. I like the smaller lens structure as well. Mostly it came down to the fact that they just look better on me when I compared them in store because I felt that they would both work equaly well in regards to functionality.

Yep, that’s kind of how I am. I think the lenses – functionally – are better than anything out there. And, it is the same technology for each. But, I have a narrow face, so, the Flak Jackets look much better on me and do not stick out as much.
