Oakley Radar Review

I purchased a pair of Radars and just got them out for my first ride/run brick yesterday. I also own a pair of half jackets and two pair of M-frames. I’ve never liked the half jackets. Don’t fit well and suck as a riding glass AFAIC. I’ve always loved my M-frames. Perfect for riding aero and stay on the bridge of the nose like they’re glued on. The only drawback I’ve ever had with them is keeping them clean while riding. I’m a heavy-heavy sweater.
The Radars live up to all of the hype. I was skeptical while purchasing but it was money well spent. The lenses stayed perfectly clean the entire day. It’s pretty amazing. They fit almost exactly like the M-frames as far as comfort and staying put. They’re just a tad different that will take some getting used to. But the most important part is they stay in place like they’re mounted to your nose. I always hate when I lower my head and my glasses lift off my nose. The M-frames nor the Radars do this. The Radar is a great pair of glasses. I absolutely love them. So if you’re out there waffling on them because of the price make the leap because you won’t be disappointed in them.

Edit: Thought I’d add. Initially I was concerned about the width of the frames on the side and the width of the arms. I like the slender features of the M-frames. Thought this would be a problem when I was looking at the Radars on the web. The width of the frames are not even noticeable. Not a factor at all.

I completely agree. I sweat like a pig and wear contacts and the glasses also keep the sweat out of my eyes for some reason. Was out for about 4 hours yesterday and it was hot and humid and at one point the helmet was just constantly dripping and driving me nutz so I just pushed it back and down on my head to drain it at about 20 mph and a wall of sweat hit the lenses and ran off immediately. There is no way I would have made that move with any other set of shades. They really are worth the bucks. They do fog a bit in bad conditions but the sheeting action on the lenses is worth the price of admission.

I have two pairs of Radars and my only two complaints are as follows:

  1. Painting chipping of of nose bridge when changing lenses. This is a warranty issue I will handle when I get back from Europe.

  2. Smudges do need to be worked out, so while the water and what not may sheet off, if you drip sweat with sunscreen onto the lense, it will smudge.

Other than these two quibble, I am VERY happy with the glasses.

To the previous post: I have vented lenses so no fogging issues up to this point. And I wear them flat against my brow. If they were going to fog yesterday would have been a fitting opportunity with the humidity.

Grande: Yes I could see where smudging might be a problem if you’re fingering the lenses with petroleum based products on them. But come one they’re glass lenses. I haven’t noticed any smudges unless i’m fingering the lenses. Everything else just runs off.
