NYC training

I"m looking for tips from those who live and train in NYC

Pools (I’ve used the Athletic and swim club midtown before)Gyms in midtown, cycling focussedIdeas for winter.

Pools – YMCA. Cheapest and most convenient I’ve found, with locations in midtown and plenty of other spots. There’s also Asphalt Green in Battery Park City and UES.
Gyms – If cycling-focused, can you fit a bike + trainer in your apartment? Can’t say I’ve heard of any gyms here that truly support “cycling” as opposed to your typical spin class, but can’t say I’ve looked. Also, as an alternative, early-morning central park laps are great on the bike and close enough to midtown.
Winter – Totally fine for running 95% of days, and indoor pools are of course still open. If you’re willing to buy some nice shoe covers, gloves, and winter kit, and be a bit cold, cycling outside is doable most of the winter. But, honestly, a smart trainer is so much easier and often more enjoyable IMO.

Beyond these things, for long rides, crossing the GW bridge out of the city and riding along 9W or River Road is always great for long rides. Plenty of relatively open miles, hills, and route variations.

NYC is generally an inconvenient place to train, but you can definitely tailor your schedule, training, memberships, etc. to make it convenient. I was able to fit in lots of hours, without losing much time, by finding running routes starting right out my door, doing weekday rides on the trainer and long weekend rides early outside, and swimming at a YMCA less than a mile away.

Expensive but I go to Chelsea piers fitness. Has indoor Olympic track and lap swim pool. Also all of NYC recreational centers are a good cheap choice especially for pools but the hours are a little weird.

Is the pool always packed at Chelsea piers? Anyone with personal experience?
