Nuun tablets for hydration

This is now one of my favorites…these tablets are cheaper and better than MotoTabs. The MotoTabs take forever to dissolve and seem to not always totally dissolve. However, nuun tablets are much smaller, dissolve faster, and seem to be cheaper.

I like these because you only have sodium and potassium in them. And, they have a light taste that is good in cold or warm water. Anybody else like these, how many do you recommend using per hour of moderate/heavy training?

I don’t know. I added one of these to standard gatorade for one of the races this weekend and the two flavors clashed but it worked well. I’m interested to hear how many people are using as well. I read the packet but the nutrional information isn’t for athletes as much as the general public. I’d prefer it in terms of water bottles/etc.

This past winter I peddled a road bike on a compu trainer twice a week (one hour each time) for 12 weeks and would drink one Nuun tablet in 22oz of water with good results. This was in an organized class setting that kept the sweat pouring out of me for most of the hour sessions. If you are in a situation where you can get water out on a course, but not the electrolite replacement of your choice, then I think this is a really good product. Tim

I use Carbo Pro (for carbs ) with a Nuun tablet (or two) and water… that has been my drink of choice for two seasons now with only good results… I was thinking of trying the Infinit product line but why change something that works so well for me!

I just started using it a few months ago. I think it is awsome. I get the sodium etc without the sugar and carbs from gatorade et al. It is perfect for workout less than 90 minutes especially if you are a heavy sweater. On my longer rides I take gels or real food with the Nuun and it works great, no gastric distress. I’ll be racing with it in June.

I like to mix the citrus and lemon-lime together… that’s good. citrus is also good in margaritas.

I mixed a Nunn tablet today with Polish Vodka and water. Good combo. Tim

I use Nuun all the time now, and hardly ever drink just plain water when exercising/racing.

What I haven’t quite sorted out is how best to get it in on an IM run. Assuming I don’t want to carry a water bottle when running, can a tab be mixed with a much smaller amount of water than recommended, such as a cup full from an aid station, without any adverse consequences in terms of ingestion/absorption?

I did ask Nun this direct, but never got an answer. I also looked at Desiree Ficker’s website, as a high profile user, but when asked this exact question, by someone else, she talks about carrying Nuun and Endurolytes, but only refers to taking the latter on the run…

Oh my god…that is hilarious…yeah…I use accelerade for recovery and used to use it during my rides. However, on long rides the nuun is best for me because I needed something not as strong as accelerade.

Good point…I have wondered that…Desiree carries Nuun while running in her hand…some runners are told by their coaches to carry something in both hands, while advocating that it helps maintain form…for what it’s worth, I carry and alternate my mp3 player from hand to hand…When it is not with me on the run…I feel weird formwise. I don’t know when Desiree takes it…That is why I take it…because I worship her body. Just kidding.

Try this for you IM run…crush the tab up, put it in a small bag just like a cokehead uses. At your aid station drop it in your open cup. Nuun dissolves so fast that I think it would be ready before you even have time to spill it.

I’ve been a nuun addict for a year now. I just ordered their newest flavor. forgot the name but’s cola flavored and has caffiene. It’ll go great with espresso hammer gel.

Yeah the new flavor is called (Kona Cola)…I was impressed by it too. I am becoming a nuun addict myself. You can get a discount on them ordering from all3sports.com. The Nuun tablets just make motortabs terrible. Half the price and much better. Citrus is also good.

i like them alot and use them as a refreshing beverage in the 2 days following especially hard efforts. (not during though–just after, or even after being in hot sun gardening)

so far have only tried lemon/lime and love it.

Nuun is the best thing for endurance athletes I’ve found so far. Carbs, fats, and protein are all important, but only in moderation for edurance sports, hydration is a must. kona cola has caffeine in it?! I might have me a new best friend

I love nuun as well. I’m to the point that I usually take a liter of water a day with a tablet of nuun in it just to get some more electrolytes in during the day at work. It’s great stuff and the red one is my favorite.

One idea on the run is put it in your mouth and then just suck on it. However, on the long runs, I get my electrolytes from my gels and my salt pills. I pretty much only use nuun on the bike and my T2 water bottle that I carry with me for the first mile or so on the run.

Why does that not surprise me?

Since trying NUUN, I don’t even think about taking plain water. The gatorade I bought before trying it is just gathering dust above my cabinets now. I did FL 70.3 with it and went through 6 of them. I just refilled the Aero Drink and then shoved in a NUUN tablet around the mesh and was good to go.

I ran out of NUUN during Mountains of Misery this past sunday so I had some gatorade and I had forgotten how horrible the after taste is. Needless to say, I reminded me of why I switched. And in regards to using it on the run, you can crunch it up and take small pieces with water at the aid stations. It does take a bit of getting use to though.
