Nutrition training feeback anyone?

O.K., so I’m in my final few peak weeks of IM training and did a really big brick on Sunday and had something happen for the first time in over 5 years…my stomach slowed down emptying…not completely shut down but was very slow to empty which of course slowed my ability to take in more fluids…so what could have happened…

The facts…weather was nice even cool in the AM…effort on the bike was moderate…nothing new being used…pace on the run initially was about 5 bpm over my goal HR but not too fast…fluids were cool, not warm.

Perhaps,

  1. some of my gel was “turning” - been in the fridge about 3 months in a sealed container

  2. being cool out I did not dilute my “IM cocktail” with water leading to too many calories all at once…

  3. not enough Endurolytes due to not realizing I was still losing salt and electrolytes since I didn’t feel “hot”

  4. not being regimented as usual in taking the nutrition in measured doses every 15 mintues

  5. all of the above

  6. none of the above - Something else

Thanks to all for your feedback…

Paul

bump for the AM crowd…

I’m certainly not an expert but #2 would be on my list of possible causes.

Probably 2 - can’t be 3 because there is hardly anything in an Endurolyte whether it is hot or cold. Check Endurolytes versus Thermolytes if you are racing in hot weather.
