Nunn Tablets

Im curious if anyone uses Nunn tablets for hydration for biking or running. I did Ironman Texas last weekend and saw a guy in T1 who had Nunn tablets with him. He told me thats what he used for hydration. Seems pretty simple since they are very portable. I thought the Powerbar Perform on course drink sucked. I ended up using only water with saltstick pills.

I like them. Nice light taste, not too sweet. There are no calories in them though, so take that in to consideration. You may need a few extra gels to compensate.

I use them a lot instead of energy drink on runs or rides up to two hours. Seem to help me recover better than just drinking water - muscles seem less tired.
I also like the High5 branded ones you can get on Wiggle.com for very little.

I’m a big fan of none tablets. Never heard of nunn.

I’m a big fan. I use Nuun for hydration, and Honey Stinger chews for nutrition.

I did not care for Nuun tablets on the bike because the effervescence caused my bike bottle to nearly explode. The mess wasn’t worth the effort.

If you have enough time on a shorter ride, they may be OK, but carrying them and waiting for the bubbling to stop was too much time wasted for me.

I’ve used Nunns for hydration for HIM and IM both on the bike an run. I like the taste plus it has sodium so I use it for hydration as I hate Perform, and then add in calories via gels or other food.

I had used them for a number of rides and ultimately I decided I didn’t like the fizz that they gave the liquid. I switched over the Gu Brew and I have been more than happy.

With both Purist bottles and Camelback, I simply leave the valve open on the top. The pressure burps the valve, but I’ve never had any liquid come out.

I like them. I use them in water after workouts as well during smaller workouts. When the weather gets hot and I sweat more, I add them to infinit go far. (I know I could get infinit to make me a custom with more electrolytes, just haven’t taken the time :-). You have to leave your bottle nipple open if you add them during a race to vent the fizz when they are dissolving.

One nuun tablet + one tablespoon of sugar per bottle is my standard mix for the bike. Basically a ghetto version of Skratch labs.

For my training runs over 2 hours, I’ve been using NuUN tabs and soda. I just make the NUUN in a gallon jug and let it sit a while. Never had a pressure problem with my fuel belt bottles.

Kola is my favorite flavor which they variously tell me they are discontinuing and not whenever I see them at an expo. I like the caffeine and flavor. The one thing I don’t like which is super minor is the “grit” at the bottom of the barrel.

i live in teh tropics where our water is devoid of any minerals and use Nuun tablets for runs and bikes and sometimes even swims (just to combat the salt water in my mouth). use them for the run of every IM Cozumel I’ve done too.

x2. I had been using Nuun until I discovered Gu Brew. Much better taste in my opinion. Same concept though. I just carry a tube with me on long rides and add them to water. Really, it’s totally subjective which one is better for a specific individual.

Love them, use them in my Shiv bladder because it is easy to clean and doesn’t leave a sticky residue…plus the small plastic bottle can easily fit in my fuel storage. I ordered the sampler pack from trisports.com and love pretty much all the flavors.

Nuun, a few scoops of maltodextrin (250 cals) and a scoop of sugar (50 cals). 300 calorie bike bottle that doesn’t stain and taste pretty mild and good.

Maybe you spoke to me and I didn’t realize it… I ran IMTX last week and all my water bottles on the bike had Nuun tablet in them and took the canister with me on the run in case something started to go wrong. I find they work great due to minimal carbs and how they feel in the stomach keeping you feeling light on the feet and in fat burning mode. Heard a new product Nuun Energy (basically Nuun with added caffeine) just came out. Haven’t tried that yet but those are right up my alley.

I’ve been using Nuun since 2007 and have been quite happy with them. However, I do not use a full tablet per bottle; rather, I use half. I found the full tablet to be too much in terms of taste & after-effect. The half-tab solution has been working well for me through myriad races of varying distances. Good luck in finding something that works for you.

I wish they didn’t use Sorbitol in the tablets… but other than this I like them.
