We’re getting signal traffic that there many be a positive test lurking out there. *If *this is fact and there is an “announcement” coming from Christian Prudhomme *and *the party in question is a member of Discovery since one report suggests the positive testee is a jersey holder then:
All Discovery members would leave the Tour as did Vinoqourov’s team. Evans defaults to winner. 4th place becomes 2nd place and 5th place becomes 3rd place putting Sastre and Zubeldia on the podium.
Is this alledged “positive test” we’ve heard reported in two European media outlets a fact? Are we going to hear more or is this just rumor?

If all that you write portends truth, then how hollow will Sunday’s podium ceremony be? At this point, it’s already close to being ridiculous…more positives and more eliminations, especially at the top…wow, how many asterisks will it take to denote the leaderboard for version 2007 of the TDF?
I’m going to step outside of the popular opinion and say “I don’t care”. I enjoy watching the race. If they weren’t constantly telling me people are doping I wouldn’t think about it. Yes, that’s a “sticking my head in the sand” attitude. When I watch a football game I don’t sit there wondering if every good play was because of steroids. If they want to try to get rid of doping, more power too 'em… but quit using it as a way to get maximum media spotlight during the TdF. Make some serious consequences at the team level throughout the year so that team owners, directors, doctors and athletes have serious reason to not risk it. Make it in their best interest to keep it out of the sport because right now the rewards are worth the risks in the long run. Popping a few people during the TdF doesn’t discourage doping, it just inspires them to look for new and improved ways to get away with it.
As a fan of Evans and not Disco I would like the rumour to be true, but the Eurosport guys nemtioned that the rumour spun from the fact that there were some official cars (of some manufacturer) that looked very similar to gendarme vehicles outside the hotel this morning.
I contend it was chicken; and since he’s already out of the tour, they’ll wait until well after to announce it.

The UCI has confirmed that this rumor is complete BS. It was reported by a french paper, and there is actually no other positive test at the moment. The reports of the police at the Barloworld hotel was actually the AG2R team car, who were actually staying at the same hotel. Patrice Clerc said that you have to be careful where you get your information and what news sources to trust…
