Well, I almost made it. I was so close; ~100km out of Penticton when I decided to turn around and head home. Why, you ask? A very strange fuel line problem that forced me to pull over by the side of the highway a total of six times today, and ultimately fork over $250 for a tow home.
Normally I’d have limped into Penticton and dealt with the issue on Monday, but I have to fly out on Tuesday morning for work, and my odds of making it back in time to prepare for the trip on Monday night were pretty slender.
Luckily, Julian has kindly offerred to stand in line for me on Monday, so although I’ll miss the race, not all is lost. I hope his back holds out and that his luck tomorrow is better than mine today.
Best to all the racers out there tomorrow - while I won’t be there in person to cheer you on, I’ll be cheering from here.
PS - anyone know if the fires in Kelowna/WestBank will affect the race?
