I am just about to pull the trigger on an Aeroad but trying to decide if the fact that I can’t add aerobars is a deal breaker. I already have a Speedmax but my racing is shifting to more long distance riding-only races and triathlons where oftentimes TT bikes are rather pointless given the mountain climbs and descents. I was hoping to add clip-ons for those triathlons but it’s not an option with the Aeroad cockpit. Not sure if this is now generally the case with the new generation of aero road bikes or is it a problem that is unique to the Aeroad?
Most top-end aero bikes come with only with intergrated aero handlebars. SOME aero cockpits are available with custom clip-ons, but you would need to check each manufacturer’s website. I use a pair with the H36 aero cockpit on my Endurace, although the clip-ons have not been available on the Canyon website for some time.
But I think the Aeroad comes with the CP30 or the CP18, which is not clip-on compatible. In fact, Canyon warn specifically against this, as these bars are NOT reinforced where clip-ons would mount.
Also, fully internal cable routing makes fitting shifters on clip-on extensions a lot trickier.
Thanks - I figured it was likely to be a case with all of the higher end integrated cockpits and I’m so over trying to locate a bike in my size! Went ahead and bought the Aeroad
I see two options: either buy a clip-on compatible handle bar and extensions from other manufacturer (and sell the stock one of the aeroad) or use some extensions for that aeroad cockpit.
In a Spanish forum, some guys have commented on extensions for the H36 cockpit mady by a guy in Germany https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/triathlonaufsatz-fuer-h36-h11-canyon-extensions-tribar/1815041892-217-473 And they are happy with results. By they way, they were able to negotiate a lower price than listed
Doesn’t the current version Propel offer the road bike aero handlebar shaped clip ons?
