Finished building up my project bike. It started as this:
and ended up as this:
Yep - I know I’ve violated a bunch of rules and pet peeves and it’s not a real tri bike, but I’ve got a bike that’ll work for Tri’s, got my roadbike back to normal, and did if for about $250. The Cannondale was in pretty poor shape when I got it, but it cleaned up well. I added the base bar and bar end shifters, new saddle, new tires, cables, bar tape, saddle, seatpost and stem - cleaned it up really well and it’s ready to roll.
nice bike, it looks just like a new cannondale. It looks like your shifter cable housing is pretty short. i hope it doesnt cause any problems.
Please be one of those people who use their garage to park their car in. I’m the only one in my neighborhood that does and it drives me nuts. My hood looks like a ghetto with the cars parked in all the driveways and on the streets. it’s best not to contribute to that. I’m going to move because of it.
My garage usually isn’t such a rubbish pile. We did the Houston->Austin TX MS150 last weekend and my wife was a team captian. Somehow, all of the leftover team stuff ended up in our garage and there’s barely room for the bikes, much less the cars. Should hopefully get it back to normal this weekend…
I’ve never run cables on bar end shifters before. I set it up so that I could turn the bars 90d without pulling the cables out of the stop - hopefully that’s long enough. I also used inline cable adjusters, which cause the cables to bend a little strangely. I notice a lot of folks run their shifter housing over the base bar - I went under. Don’t know if that makes any difference.
Gosh, it looks great, especially with that yellow color. Now you got me thinkin that I should do that to mine too. I’m in a dilemna at the moment. For me to fully convert my road to tri, I would need to pay 100 bucks for the barends, brake levers and basebar. I’ve already got a forward seatpost and tri saddle and aerobars. The only prob is that I could get a cheap QR kilo on preowned bikes or so for 900 bucks. I feel like that is money better spent for me since I could let my wifie use my road bike while I use the tri bike. But i’ve already spent some money on my road and to bring it up to tri spec is only that little bit more even though it isn’t a REAL tri bike either It doesn’t help my road bike isn’t that nice so it’s even harder to justify more money into it.
