Norwegian cruise, which room to choose?

My wife and I are planning to take a cruise on the Norwegian “Bliss” in March, 2026, to Mexico from the Los Angeles port. We would like to get two rooms so we can take both of our sons (they will be 23 and 21 years old).

Any suggestions of which rooms to get?

See if you can get them next to the armory

Follow the POSH principle — Port Outbound, Starboard Home. Unless this is a roundtrip cruise.

I’ve only ever been on the encore but if you have the coin, the Haven is well worth it.

Fun fact - it’s a myth that that’s how the word posh came about.

To the OP, if one way, decide if you want coastal or ocean views, and sunrise or sunset views.

Personally, I’d go for coasts and sunrises (southbound).

If you go to the cruisecritic.com website and search for the Bliss, you will find everything you need to know including cabin reviews.

I was on the Bliss a couple of months after its maiden voyage. Nice ship.

We had a Family Balcony Suite on the 15th floor. Just looked it up. We were in room 15760. What we loved about that location is we were the last room in the hallway leading to the Observation Lounge. So we could easily use the Observation Lounge to grab drinks and snacks all day. Pro tip: they do (or did) a nice breakfast spread there and hardly anybody goes there except folks who are on high floors in the fore of the ship.

It was a great location. IMO, only beat by the Haven level rooms/suites.

Which of the Haven rooms would you recommend?

Caesars gave us the cruises for “free”. We just have to pay $790 in administrative fees, taxes, and port fees.

The only room that we can’t get for free is the Haven Owner’s Suite with three bedrooms.

My wife and I had a 1 bedroom king bed haven room for our Alaskan cruise. It was perfect and spacious enough for the 2 of us. And we aren’t cruise people. I’ve seen some of 2 bedroom rooms and the bedrooms seemed a little crammed to make room for the common area in the room. I guess it just depends on your family dynamic and relationship with your kids.

The haven is highly worth it for the service and particularly specialty dining and bar. No long lines and better food. It’s like you aren’t even on a cruise. You live a very different life in the Haven compared to those not in the haven.

You can YouTube the different room setups on the ship and get a feel for what the rooms look like.

Do you remember which room number you were in? Or what type it was?

We have two free rooms, so we were thinking about getting a two bedroom family villa for the kids, but not sure for us.

There is the aft-facing penthouse (room 15276 or 15876) that is over 600 square feet and has a 200 square foot balcony. The only downside to this room is that it isn’t on the 17th or 18th deck with most of the other Haven rooms.

Or should we get a 2 bedroom family villa for us too? They are over 600 square feet, but the balcony is only 127 square feet. (We currently have room 17100 temporarily on hold and there are nine more of the same room type available.)

… wow … Caesars gave a whale a free cruise

I’m a minnow, only Diamond Elite rating.

I am on the Norwegian Bliss right now on an Alaska cruise.
If you want a view I can highly recommend that you do not get a cheap deal on an inside room :grinning:
BTW The freedom hating cruise line does not allow guns aboard. You will be unarmed if you come across a bad guy or a tyrannical government .

I’m pretty sure there is a port of call in either Victoria or Vancouver along the way, so, this part is guaranteed.

ETA: my mistake, I thought Jim was going to Alaska.

Canada is not tyrannical compared to its neighbour.

Russia has been tyrannical for centuries

How full is the ship?

What types of people? Any kids?

Any standout food or drinks?

Very full. I am cruising with 4000 "friends ". All areas are quite crowded. We avoid the restaurants during busy times.

The majority of people on the ship are older, 60+. The bands, parties and shows reflect this. Music from the 60s, 70s and 80s. There are also quite a few families mainly with younger children. I have not noticed many teenagers.

As we have the drinks package we are making making our way through the cocktail list. I now have a new favourite drink- whiskey sour. We have only eaten in the included restaurants ao far. The food is good, nothing standout so far.

Avoid the elevators if possible they are crammed with people and you often have a long wait. We are getting lots of exercise walking the stairs.

My wife and I just turned 60, so we might fit in.

I heard that there are elevators for Haven guests, but I don’t know where they are located.
