North County San Diego Running Routes

I’m going to be in Encinitas for a week in a couple months. What are the good running routes from 3-10 miles on road or trail? Torrey Pines, Bataquitos, and PCH are already on the list.

Thanks

just an FYI, Batiquitos is only a 3 mile trail round trip.

One of the best trails (IMO) is the Ranch run in Santa Fe. It starts at lower San Dieguito Park near the corner of El Camino Real and El Nido. There is a wood chip trail that follows beside the road along Camino Real to La Orilla then Rambla De Las Flores. But then after crossing La Granada it turns onto a dedicated trail away from the streets. Very soft Eucalyptus wood chip trail designed for horses but great for running. Very hilly too. You would be best to find someone to run it with you that knows the loop as you will be guaranteed to get lost otherwise. I have had 11 mile runs turn into 16 mile runs when I was learning the loop. If you do run this loop please keep in mind that it is private property. The Rancho Santa Fe HOA is usually alright with runners on the trail as long as they are respectful. That means yielding the right away to horses! If you come up on someone on horseback you need to stop and let them pass. There is also a section of the trail that goes along the RST Country Club golf course so obviously that means no loud conversations along the golf course section.
There is usually a group that runs the loop (11 miles) every Sunday, some leaving at 7am, some at 8am. Matty Reed is usually running the loop on Sunday mornings when he is in town.
Here is a map link to the course but this is probably not sufficient to not get you lost. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/5054215

other then that, just running along the coast is always nice, even though on pavement. Going north from Leucadia or south from Encinitas is good.

I have not been there in years but Stagecoach Park used to have some nice climbs.
