So if you understand the basic complexities of the trade between the two countries, and how they are starkly different, why are you comparing the way each country is handling the issue?
One thing windy has in common with Trump is they both believe the entire world should bend the knee in subservience to the US and never act in their own interest.
The fact that Canada and Canadians were rightfully pissed off about this just bewilders them, and they take it as a personal attack, because to them the only reasonable response is compliance and expression of gratitude for not turning the screws harder.
But it is also why it is pointless to try to honestly negotiate with Trump. Next week he will do the same thing and want more. Just like the toddler he is.
I don’t hold it against Canada in the slightest, nor do I think it’s terrible for the US to try to secure it’s own best interests. Trump, definitely not the ideal guy to do it but it’s where we are at the moment.
For him to flip flop that quickly, what was really the point? Even as a distraction from Elon, it was pretty quick…
I assume this means Canada holds off on its tariffs as well, but I genuinely hope they still move forward with encouraging the avoidance of American products, booze, starlink, etc. Wouldn’t hurt Canadians to support Canadian businesses more.
Trump says his stunt was about Canada not letting America banks “open or do business there.”…There are 16 U.S.-based bank subsidiaries and branches in Canada holding about $113 billion in assets.
He also said claimed Canada “doesn’t take our agricultural products, for the most part.” …the U.S. is Canada’s largest agricultural trading partner, representing some 57% of Canadian food imports.
He’s a fucking moron.
We share a huge amount of common interests. There is zero need to make an adversarial relationship from your closest ally like this, when we largely both want the same things, and we each have things the other needs.
