Jan seems a good sort of a bloke.

Yeah,he is one guy who I’d be happy to hang out with. I love his sense of humor and the confidence he has in talking about all aspects of the sport…I have also had a huge crush on his missus Emma for over 20 years (like so many Aussie guys).

Does Ironman ‘own’ Noosa Tri?

There’s a small icon in bottom RH corner.
In commentary they suggested Riddle is headed for 70.3 Busselton (Lange’s distance to the winner is a ‘critical’ deficit (wrt IM Pro Series) and not clear who might race there.

Yeah, Ironman bought the event management company USM that owned the Noosa and Mooloolaba Tri Festivals. Interestingly they only invested in the purchase when Challenge Cairns used USM to produce their full distance race in 2011 effectively meaning the Challenge Cairns race in 2012 would be managed by Ironman. Felix from Challenge then sighted a conflict of interest and the contract for further Challenge Cairns races was cancelled and Ironman Cairns was born. (yet another sneaky move by Ironman Corp)

Great to see Ash win again, doing it tough during a heavy T100 training block. Especially happy to see Brayden Mercer win the mens as I was a huge fan of his mum Reen and his father Dean, both Australian Surf Lifesaving legends from the '90’s and still Australian surf sport icons. Brayden’s dad died unexpectantly at age 47 when he was 13 and the entire Aussie surf lifesaving community will be as emotional as Emma Frodeno was with this amazing result.

New Garmin Hill KOM - Richie Porte riding in the team event, bike leg…

45km an avg.

Looks like he’s also doing a ton of swimming?

I think I saw Matt Hayden DNS as well.

Question - too warm for wetsuits… what’s the usual best go to then? Folks just swim in tri suit? Apparently a lot of DT’s out there haha. Then they change to bike bibs?

I question Ashley’s necessity to or efficacy of doing this race. We’ll see in two weeks what it may mean.

Noosa Tri is the biggest Olympic Tri in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the highest profile multisport events on the Australian sporting calendar. Ash is a professional athlete and this race is very good for her profile and sponsors especially as it is her only Aussie race this year. It is very difficult to explain how big a race this is here in Oz unless you have seen it first hand.

I guess there is a case to be made for the sponsor ‘obligations’, but I see a better T100 performance more value for sponsors. Noosa’s prize money $16k AUD isnt a lot relatively either.

74 Holden Premie surely means something to you - I was often dismayed with the Noosa race in. Previous life due to the race weekends impact on completely great kite sessions.

Nah,Noosa is the place to smooze with all the industry corporate types. She is the highest paid, highest profile triathlete in the country and to show up is good for her here at home. She will get more publicity in the national media tomorrow than she would for winning the PTO series and that means a lot. Sure,Noosa was a “b” grade race in terms of talent compared to the T-100 series but sometimes media spin is worth more than results…(Paging Lionel)
I don’t think anyone expects her to overcome Knibb to take out the T-100 series but she is racing to hold on for second and over $200k AUD in prizemoney. If she does that then it is a very successful year for her and she doesn’t have to send Josh out to get a real job just yet. :grinning:

its quite evident that asics for instances flies in sponsored atheltes.
which other race has a shoe named after it …

Noosa is probably the one short distance race I’d travel for, the think looks incredible. SO much support.

It is a really fun week with not only the Tri but all the support events. The celebrity race and the teams event bring out more Olympians and Aussie sports stars ,past and present ,than any other event in the country. Then there are the after-parties, the before parties and the during-parties. There will be a lot of sore heads in the district tomorrow.

Worth also looking forward to Taupo where Gentle has every chance of a top 3.
I guess Knibb’s demise in Dubai will be temperature dependent. Gentle wins T100 overall with a win and Knibb in third (behind eg: Derron).
The chances of another athlete beating Gentle for second in the tour overall would only occur with a Gentle blow up (eg #8, and Lee finishing on the podium).

Last year’s 70.3 podium in Lahti was Knibb Matthews Simmonds, with Gentle preferring (the heat and $$ of) PTO Singapore. Derron will be there to play this year. Any others (Lee? will LCB be fit again?)? Hilly course so maybe Philipp will be up there, despite swim.
Having your family and friends cheering you on in a ‘home’ race brings humanity and joy back to what can be a professional grind.

I couldn’t believe Mercer ran so well.

Yep, I got sucked into watching the crit race with Kaden Groves the other day. Was quite a bit of fun even if everyone knew who the winner would be. The difference between WT pro and very good semi-pro is mind-boggling and not something you get to see every other day.
