quick question sorry I’m such a noob…I’ve been riding in a pretty slack/relaxed less aero position (yes the bike was fit to me by what seems like a pretty good fit guy). now I’m riding the trainer all winter and working on a better aero position. over the last 6 weeks i’ve slowly been lowering my front end by taking out spacers. I’ve dropped and inch to 1.5 inches and the position feels very good and more aero. here is the question…
What other adjustments might be needed as a result of the drop?
I think my seat height is good, but would you typically need to make adjustments to seat angle or anything else when you have such a substantial drop in the front end? I’d like to try to fine tune my position a bit before I had an official re-fitting session with my LBS.
You really need to post pics so the bored people here can pick on your home decor. Once that’s over, you’ll likely get some very valuable, and some very useless feedback.
In theory, you may want to move your seat forward, thus effectively steepening the seat angle. If you just lower the front and leave the seat where it is, your back and hips will be at a more acute angle. That may or may not be a problem depending on flexibility and other issues. By moving the seat forward and lowering the front you are trying to basically rotate your position around the bottom bracket. Check out Slowman’s articles on bike fit, I’m probably plagiarizing some of it (badly).
