Nokon or IRD Metawire

Anyone use/know of someone who does either of these? I see metawire comes in silver/gold/and BLACK…cooool.

They work well, and handle very tight turns well. The only real downside is the alum joints need to be lubed periodically or they start squeaking with any movement.

Aztec is making some that are similar and quoted to be the same weight that have a plastic housing on the outside of the metal so they may solve that problem, but I haven’t tried them yet.

While some consider them extravegant and a waste of money I have had mine for 2 yrs now & love them. I got them when they were first available in the staes. They were available in Europe & Austraila much sooner. BTY there is a BIG difference between the IRD and Nokon in terms of quality and functionality. The IRD are definetly a cheap knock off and don’t work as well.

I put them on my new Talon SL just because I had the spare $$. Do they work better in terms of improved shifting response and braking feel? Yes, but that is extremely anecdotal. Are they worth the extra $$ just in terms of performance? Not really. I suppose the ultimate test will be when I hit one of those 3 hour rides with rain all the way, rain on the drive back from the jumping off point, and don’t take the time to thoroughly dry the bike out afterward. If they don’t seize then, I’ll consider them worth the $$.

But damn do they look nice.

You planning on doing the Paris Roubaix any time soon?

Don’t I wish!!! I had a brain fart a few years ago driving back from the Floridian. I got home after driving 700 miles in the pouring rain and just took the bike off the rack, hung it in the house and didn’t touch it for a week. Needless to say, it was competely frozen up when I took it down. That was an expensive lapse in judgement.

You need to try it again with the Nokon on (sounds like I’m stuttering doesn’t it) and report back to me. Thinking about putting it on a new build I’m working on.
