Has anyone been following Noam Yaron’s attempt to swim from Calvi to Monaco?
After an instagram post saying they were not far from Monaco, his social media went completely silent for many days . Media reported that he was pulled from the water 2KM from the finish and was in hospital.
Today, 6 days later his Instagram team posted “He did it” with pretty much no further explanation.
Never heard of him but surely he is not claiming a completion, if all media reports say he was taken from the water.
These super long, ultra type swimmers dont really play by the same ‘channel rules’ as those only doing the 10-15 hour or so channel type swims. Ross Edgley is another. They wear wetsuits for a start.
I have a podcast to listen to by a swimmer called barbara hernandez. She swam a few kms in antarctica in a regular swimming suit. She is from chile.
His team posted on Instagram “He did it!” Without absolutely any other information etc. He however has just done a video update and does say he was pulled 2K from the finish.
That would be like someone swimming the English Channel, not reaching Calais, but saying “I did it, because due to currents I swam 21 miles, so it counts!”
Correct I am just pointing out on the Instagram link on this thread the claim is distance and time not achieving a landing on the beachhead. It’s a convenient mis representation for sure but if he is claiming a distance and time only then that part is legit. He achieved a distance and time threshold on the path to Monaco conveniently leaving out that no landing at Monaco happened. That’s what I saw from a cursory look
Big question is does he get to have the tattoo?? It sucks for sure, but this quasi sport requires that you actually touch the ground on the other side when crossing a channel. Hell of a swim though, over a 100 hours is no joke in the OW, presume no wetsuit??
Dont know if you ever followed much the big crazy arse swims, like the swim to Cuba and all that mad shit. Some aussies did some insane shit in this space.
tammy van wisse did some stone cold killer swims in her day.
I follow it tangentially but have not heard of your girl there. But what a resume, she has that rare ability of going fast and ultra long. And quite tough to do it in any and all conditions too. Is she a friend or acquaintance?
no not at all, just someone who when i learnt about her I was extremely impressed. she has done some wild stuff.
sarah thomas put it interestingly when she talked about the qualities of these ultra swimmers. she said, yeah they (someone she was doing an event against) are a much faster 10k swimmer, but I am better over 20km. they just dont have any mental limits finding their sweet spot distance.
