No need for a single thread

Road racing is it’s own sub forum.
You can start a new thread for each race.

And there is no such thing as a spoiler here.

Anyways, that was a wild men’s road champs. Pog is ridiculous.

Don’t all discussions regarding races/racing belong in the Racing sub-forum?

This is where I’m most confused with the breakdown.

Agree there’s no such thing as spoilers within a thread. But please don’t post a spoiler within the thread title.

I missed watching the men’s road race due to travel, and look forward to the reply, but I “opened the internet” and it was shoved in my face at Tadej just took off with 100 km to go.

That’s epic and reminds of Froome of Finistre 2017? to take the Giro.

Sure, let’s start a thread to discuss the triple crown. Put whatever you want in whatever titles, as this is the internet. It has been 37 years since 1987 since the last time it was done !!!

As Andy Murray would say, 37 years since the last time it was done by a man

I guess some like the one big thread concept. Seems to work.

There is also other stuff intermixed in the discussion such as nominations to the GDC

I think the idea is to prevent spoilers in thread titles not in the thread itself. I think Ryan said there is a way to mark them as spoilers.

The concept of a spoiler does not exist here.

A spoiler in a thread title percolates elsewhere
It’s a simple courtesy to avoid them

It’s a simple courtesy to not put a spoiler in thread title.

As this is 2024. @rrheisler already said results in titles are fine. Just bookmark whatevery thread does not have spoilers in the titles and avoid everything else on this entire forum.

The people on a time lagged viewing schedule can avoid the the rest of the world who is discussing live results by just going to a thread that you already have pre titled with no results. No need to force the rest of the world around your value system.

The nice thing is you all can go to the main tri forum without seeing any results from pro cycling as they would be in this forum, and you can avoid the entire rest of the road cycling section by going to your single thread and the problem is solved.

@rrheisler
You Demo’d a feature to hide spoilers. Can you show that again ?

Why does “ignore user” not apply when something creates a thread ?

That would solve 99% of the problem

To hide spoilers in a post, go to the gear icon in the comment box, select “Blur spoiler”

Vollering to Kopecky at the '23 Strade: You Fucking Bitch!.

100% agree it’d be nice for Ignore User to hide the thread.

Will that also block all future spoilers on new threads?

While getting back to me on that, I’m going to step away and evaluate my value systems for 2025.

What are the odds that someone who doesn’t get the concept of spoilers does this?

This doesn’t seem to work for thread titles…just like ignore user.

Oh well…

Spoiler alert: Zero. Zero chance a couple posters will make the slightest effort at a courtesy.

Replying to thread:

1.) because we have the spoiler function for WITHIN a thread now, and
2.) because Google will still see the spoilers discussed WITHIN that thread (solving that issue), and
3.) because ignoring a user does not hide all discussion by that user, it is hereby asked that

for the cycling races, don’t put spoilers in thread titles, just have a generic title about the race, then use the spoiler function so as to blur the result for the first 4 or so hours after the event takes place.

Now, keep in mind, that our new content management system automatically creates a thread whenever we publish a news story. So for some races…welp, sorry, we were covering it, we’re gonna publicize that everywhere so as to ensure we get the eyeballs on the product…

As always: be nice to one another.

Hey @trail @rrheisler , where is the “user manual” to activate that obfuscation feature in the title.

That solves everything between those who want time lapsed results and those who do not. it sounds like we put results in a thread title, and those who want to see it can, and those who do not, can avoid clicking on it with this feature? Sounds like everyone wins. Please explain steps to do that if you can?

It’s not about courtesy, it is about 2024 internet and live news being everywhere.

With this function those who don’t want to know about the live world can still get what they want and everyone wins

Thank you for listening to other feedback on this.

It doesn’t work in thread titles. Hence my ask separately from that.

Which pretty much only applies to this forum, to be clear, as all the big races in tri or gravel that people might want to be discussing, well, we’re covering, and the CMS auto-pushes threads with those stories to the forum for the purposes of discussion so, here we are.
