No more Syntace

After 3 seasons of using Don’s (aka Austintricyclist) old sawed off Ritchey base bars and Syntace C-2’s, I am forced to get new bars. Its quite sad. When I bought my P3SL, I put this setup on in place of the Vision’s because I was so used to them. However, thanks to one careless driver turning in front of me, the bars are twisted like a Mr. Salty.

The good news is that she is paying for the parts to repair, and I am thinking of switching to something sexier. Here’s the question: I am looking for long time users of Syntace’s that found something else that they liked better, and why? I wanted to go with the Vision Carbon Pro sloping bars, but they are not available. Opinions about the Aluminum version?

Jaylew, the Nishiki is coming out of retirement for the remainder of the week, and I might even race it on Monday!

I used to swear by my syntace and thought I would never ride another bar. However using them from 1996 to 2002 caused them the allen bolts holding them to the handlebars to accumulate a lot of rust from my sweat and were frozen into place. When I built up my new bike I got a pair of profile split second bars just because they were on clearance from performance. they rode fine, seeminly as comfortable as the syntace. I could ride them as long as i wanted. This past year I customized them with some homemade s-bends made from cutting a mountain bike bar in half. Now I would say that they are far more comfortable than my syntace ever were but far more adjustable.

I was using the syntace streamliners for years. I swtiched to the VT clip-ons about 6 months ago. I have one TT bike with the aluminum version and one with the carbon version. The only difference I see is the carbon seems a bit more able to absorb some of the road shock. There is nearly no weight difference. I love them both.

Wow, I use a pair of sawed up Ritchey base bars and some similarly altered Syntace aerobars.

How odd.

I got Syntace C2’s with my old QR. I used them and even loved them for years, evn though they were a size too small.

For my latest steed, I have switched to some Profile CarbonStrikes.

I cannot believe there is a better aero bar out there. Ultra adjustable, reasonable price, fit my drink bottle easily blah blah blah. Great product. Use them, but take off the cheesy Official IM stickers.
