WFH + the day before a holiday meant I was able to devote the time to watch this… Scorsese made another classic.
Impressive “de-aging” of De Niro, Pacino and Pesci, and it certainly didn’t feel like a 3.5 hour movie. Maybe blasphemy but I put it on par with Goodfellas.
I’ve been waiting for this for months, glad to hear it’s meeting expectations. I’ll watch it on my overnight shift tomorrow.
Watching it this weekend, can’t wait.
IS it just in theaters now, or can you get it on your Netflix?? I know they made the movie, just not sure if they will milk the theatre route first…I would…

Netflix today.
They did a limited theatrical run in the last few weeks, I assume for award eligibility.
Thats great news, thanks. Now I know what I can do tomorrow with it in the 40’s and raining all stinking day!!!
I just watched the new terminator movie in theatres and I can honestly say that in terms of value for money it was probably the worst experience I can recall in my 47 years on this planet, the only things worse are lottery/speeding and parking tickets.
Just finished this and about 30 minutes in I was reminded that, yeah that’s what they do in great movies…act!
2c, I hope slowguy does a review.

That’s fairly accurate. I don’t know if I’d watch it over & over like *Goodfellas *or The Departed, though
I was pleased with the Philly mob connections
Just finished it last night. Loved it. Can’t wait to watch it again with the wife.
I really enjoyed the musical score as well. Made the last hour especially suspenseful as there was no music whatsoever.
As good as you’d expect. Its on Netflix.
I thought it was good. Not departed or good fellas good, but good.
Pesci was fantastic as a toned down psycho. Deniro was the most Italian Irishman I’ve ever seen.
Pacino was excellent
I liked the subtitles over every individual that at some stage suffered a less than natural demise

The trailers look like the same cast as in Goodfellas and Casino with a similar plot. Ho hum.

+1 on this take. Pacino made me want to learn more about Hoffa. For me the story line was good, but the acting was next level.
+1 on Pesci.
I thought it was good; not at the same level as Goodfellas for me but good. I thought the de-aging was a bit distracting for DeNiro where it made him look almost animated like Tom Hanks in The Polar Express (especially the light green eyes). Also, in the scene where he attacks the store owner in front of his young daughter, I thought he moved more like a 78-yr old man rather than someone who was supposed to be much younger.
As for the story itself, it moved well enough to the point where it didn’t feel like a 3.5 hour movie (I watched it straight through in one sitting). I thought the tie-in to Bay of Pigs/JFK assassination was effective, right down to the point of David Ferrie meeting the truck delivery. Ferrie was played by Joe Pesci (who I thought was great in this) in JFK.

Agree. I found it distracting. It was weird also seeing them in their middle years, when DeNiro and Peci were on the road trip with their wives. The wives still looked pretty young, but they looked like really old men. it was causing disconnects in my head.
The casting was really Coppola having a final farewell tour with the old gang, because in absence of that, they should have casted younger actors.
.
What was incongruous was early on deniro looking younger giving someone a beating but physically moving like a 70 year old… Guy at the corner store
I really liked it a lot.
Great meandering story and loved the anguish that DeNiro went through

I will likely watch it and enjoy it. My cousin’s had it on last week and it failed to hold my attention. My thoughts were, “Just what the world needs. Another mob movie with exactly the same cast and style as all of those other mob movies.”
Having said that, who’d going to see Star Wars this month?
No, but I saw frozen 2, will see knives out this weekend and le mans
