NJ folks- anybody racing NJ Devilman?

I have a friend who’s racing the sprint as her first tri. Any feedback on the course, or other race-specific tips for her?

too early in spring for me, I thought about it.

It’s a first year race, from knowing the area, it will probably be very flat and the water will be brown (from cedar bark) and a bit chilly

That’s right- no light colored clothes in the cedar water of the Pinelands.

I just realized that she doesn’t own a wetsuit. Does anybody rent them in your area? (She lives in Lumberton.)

I will be racing it. The course is very flat and the run is on packed dirt/sand. Nice and soft.

nobody around here I know rents suits. more incentive to swim faster,

Lumberton? She probably got practice swimming out of her house last summer. When I sent you the PyroPlatforms last year, I could have just trekked them over to your friend. Does she ride with the outdoor club? My Gf or I might have ridden with her.

I’m probably going to head down there assuming the weather looks OK. I’m going to hold off on registering though until next week as I don’t feel like racing if it’s 50F and raining.

No, I don’t think she’s done any outdoor riding at all, really. She’s sort of a gym rat, so she’s been taking spin classes. She doesn’t even have a bike, really- as of last night, she was still trying to decide between buying a new road bike and doing the race on her old dept. store mountain bike. I told her she could go either way, but the more I think about it, the more I think she should get a new bike. Maybe I’ll call her later.

Hey, if she’s interested in riding with a group, what’s the 411 for your outdoor club?

tell her to go to D&Q - they have a small tri section and now carry Felt.

Outdoor Club of South Jersey www.ocsj.org

you don’t even have to join to ride with them, although membership is only $15/year

vitus, what size does she ride?

Are you kidding me? I don’t even know what size *I *should be riding.

FWIW, she’s about average height, I guess. You have a bike she could borrow, maybe?

My wife has a road bike that she won’t be needing that day (she’s racing but riding her tri bike). It’s a Raleigh R700 (or something like that). I’m pretty sure the frame size is 49cm, so it should be ok in a pinch if your friend is on the shorter side of 5’4". Where does your friend live? If she’s anywhere near Philly/Valley Forge maybe we could meet her and she could try it out.
