What can you tell me about this race? They say expected water temp 70 degrees, but I find that a bit hard to believe.
I’d believe that water temp. I think the swim is in a dirty pond that is 4 feet deep. It was the year I did it.
I am doing it. Most likely it is a cedar lake meaning all the cedar trees have been dropping into it for centuries. Makes for a messy swim . Bring along a few gallons of water to doush yourself after swim. Not that its unhealthy just dirty cedar gets all over you. Going to be in upper 80’s all weekend lets hope it holds out for two weeks . 70 could be likely but i will do full wetsuit anyway.
Swim was cleaned up a lot from several years ago. I did it last year and it was fine.
( I also swam in the Passaic River in my younger days so take it for what it’s worth!?!? )
Bike is flat and fast. Last year was pretty windy too.
Run is flat and it was pretty hot last year. Aid stations every mile on the run if I remember.
Good support. Good RD. Good race for me. I give it 2 thumbs up!
You doing it Jime?
No, first time in 4 years I’m not doing it. I’m not doing Bassman either. Still getting over adductor strain and trying to ride alot. I have a long and busy schedule this year so I’m trying to start a little slower. I will be doing some of the Sandyhooker stuff and maybe we can meet at one of them. Stay in touch. Here is the Hookers schedule: http://sandyhookers.org/
My agenda for 2009-
Triple T
LP Training trip
Eagleman
IMLP
Iroquois Trail Relay
IM Cozumel
Immpressive list u have there. Let me know when you are riding ,if you dont mind me tagging along. I think the only one in the longbranch series i can do is the aug 15th one and the war at the shore. Philly is June 26th and july is NYC tri.
Excellent race, warm enough water, flat bike course can get windy though. nice run. Can’t say enough good things about Piranha Sports events!
I look forward to doing it. Hope I still have legs left to do at least a 8.30 mile for run. It works out on paper so we will see. Good luck if your doing it. maybe get a little slowtwitch group together night b4 or after at the bar.
So the course is flat? I’m gonna do it and was wondering. And the swim–is it really as nasty as you make it sound? Nastier than swimming in the SureKill or Hudson? Let me know so I can bring the Vaseline or Crisco or whatever is in my bathroom.
there are stories that they or someone have improved the swim, somehow. but for sure two years ago, you could more or less scrape the bottom on every stroke. it was noted by several people that there are no rules requiring that you actually swim, and on this course, you could pool jog the whole way. that was then. what its like now … i guess you’ll find out.

The water is natural dirty - not man made dirty…silt / sediments / goose poop…gets a little funky due to the churning in such a shallow lake / pond
but it’s never been an issue for me!
I’m doing the race despite the “wussification” of the distance. Course is completely flat! Can be windy!
yeah, I’m not going to be able to do triple-t so I’m looking at doing this and probably Harryman (or Harriman), which looks like a fun race.
Bring along a few gallons of water to doush yourself after swim.
Lol.
STAY TO YOUR LEFT.
Ha, yea bike course is dead flat. Run is a flat out and back with a few turns. The swim…people say they cleaned it up so maybe it won’t be too bad. The problem before was it was so shallow and all the dirt on the bottom got swirled around.
You should come down…are you registered yet? I don’t think there is race day reg and I think online reg closed.
I’m doing the sprint!! I think duathlon season is over…
yeah, I’m in for the quirky distance.
Dawhead, I’m in for Harriman as well. Triple-T didn’t work out this time around, but Harriman definitely looks epic.
Nice, that should be a fun distance!
