Nike Vaporfly with orthotics

Anyone running orthotics in the Vaporfly? I see the insoles are sewn in and I hate to shell out the money if I cant get orthotics in there

Vaporfly, Next %, and now Alphafly. Yes I tore out the insole to provide more room. It will pull out, just start up at the toe box. Works fine for me and makes the fit snug enough I can ditch laces and use elastics for racing.

I like a shoe to have more arch in the insole so ripped out the thin fabric one in the Nikes and found a generic running insole with higher arch, trimmed it a little to fit and it’s changed my running experience in the 4% that I prefer to run in. I saw video of me running down hill in them beforehand and my pronation in them was terrible as I noticed with almost every athlete (and there were a lot of them) running in Next% at IM Cairns last Sunday due to the softness/stability of the shoe. I haven’t seen any footage of me but it feels like a totally different shoe under foot.

Accuse me of being a spoilsport, but:
As I understand, a maximum sole-thickness has been introduced, the alphyfly for example seems to just be allowed under that rule.
Adding more sole by orthotics could render the shoe conflicting with the rules.

Not to worry, the magical zoom X foam wears down so fast all you have to do is go run a 5k and then you can use any insert and still meet with legal limit #science
.

I’m sure people should be concerned about being dq’d. Each time they pull the verniers out and check my shoe’s stack height after an IM has me nervous…

Following up on this post from several months ago… Did you put a custom inner sole in the 4%? Which one did you use?

I forgot to add… thanks in advance

I have custom orthotics.

Thanks for the response.

Did you find that the custom orthotics changes the springiness of the carbon plate? Also, did your custom orthotics make the heel much more rigid? If no to both, let me know where you got yours (pls)!

My custom orthotics (built on a carbon platform) makes the heel much more rigid… I also think / feel that it decreases the springiness of the plate (but just my impression).

I don’t think it works that way. Its the sole thickness of the shoe (sole) itself not an insert.
