NIke Free Run Plus - Confusing

Looking to get into a pair of Nike Free’s and thought I would start in the 5.0, (I have been doing some limited barefoot, 1mile at a time). The local running store carries the Nike Free Run +. Nike’s website doesn’t do a good job of explaining the differences between these. Anybody have any experience with the Free Run + and how it equates to Nikes 3.0 , 5.0 ,7.0 series?

Nike Free run + is the latest version of the Free 5.0, they just changed he name. The numbers used after the Free indicate how much the midsole drops from heel to toe, so the Free 7.0 has a heel that is 7mm higher than the toe, the Free 3.0 has 3mm of drop. The whole point being that the lower drop you have, the more minimal the shoe is and the closer to running barefoot it will be.

I’d say the Free run + ought to be a great starter shoe. The 3.0s are awesome as well, but pretty thin for someone just getting started.

Thanks, I will be taking them for a test run tomorrow and comparing them against some DS trainers

The “+” symbol after the name indicates that it is Nike Plus compatible for the Ipod chip that is placed in the left shoe to track distance and speed etc.

The 3.0s aren’t bad.

which sucks bawlz btw. that freaking foam insert comes lose and the place it inserts too is made of hard plastic defeating the whole purpose of the flexible nike free sole

I always wonder if this affects people with flatter feet? I have no problems with it.

Me and both my sons run in Nike fee + shoes, quite a few miles truth be told. None of us have ever noticed/thought about the + cut out and I can’t imagine anyone but someone with the most sensitive feet would notice. We do leave the small foam piece in so there is no depression, but the three us cannot discern any difference between the flexibility of the free + or the 3.0 based on the + cut out alone. The cut out is also in a part of the sole that does not flex much when running anyway. This is our report from hundreds of miles on pavement, grass, dirt and gravel, of course, your results may vary. I will tell you that the sole of the 3.0 does pick up larger pieces of gravel in the large grooves in the midfoot which can be annoying…

I run in frees since a few years now. i am a heavy overpronator so i can only use them for 5-6k, but i try to put them on once a week.
the Run+ is comparable to the 5.0

the numbers were an ideal “barefoot scale” that nike created in their powerful running machine: 0.0 equals barefeet and 10.0 equals very heavy traditional running shoes.
