Nike Air Pegasus "Women's Specific Crash Pad"

Hey guys, I bought a pair of Pegasus last winter and for some reason the air bag seemed a lot more “stiff” than the previous version. I was told that they increased the psi in the air bag so that if worked better for 170-200 lb men that are the bulk of the market vs guys like me that sit in between Kenyan weight and Clydesdale weight. I noticed that they market at “women’ specific crash pad”. Does this just have the same PSI as the old Pegasus, in which case I’ll just go try to find a women’s size 11.5 (vs men’s 10)…

If this is the case, a beautiful example of a company taking a men’s shoe, changing the colours and keeping the old padding technology that was better for women than men in the first place, and now marketing to women as something they did specific for them   :-)…or am i way off here?

Anyone in the know? Just wondering if I should go buy a women’ Pegasus as the men’s version clearly has too many PSI for my “heavier than a Kenyan, but clearly not clydesdale” body

Well if you have a womens foot, narrow heel, higher arch, narrow forefoot (compared to mens) then the shoe will fit. If you have a dude foot then it may not fit too well as the arch will be too high and in the wrong place, and the width will be too tight.

If it is soft and neutral that you are after try on a Vomero but it does come with a cost penalty. Some may feel that the Zoom air units (versus the Pegs full length air unit) should be firmer but since it is encased in Phylon versus the Pegs PU it comes off as softer.

Good luck, if you need any other suggestions just let me know

My feet are like zoomers…narrow heel, wide forefoot, functionally flat foot (arch collapses easily…born with flat feet and they made some semblance of an arch using supports in childhood…don’t even try to put me in stability crap…neutral cushioning is all that works).

Anyway, are the women’s shoes actually different. I thought it was just colours that were different?

Yes I do want softer. Amongst other shoes I am currently using AirMax 180’s which work great in the winter cause when it is minus 15C the air bag does not freeze!!!

just gain some weight, problem solved

If you go back to the large dinner plate all will be well…

Or run with the 20 lb backpack (train heavy race light…is this program Peter Reid approved)?

If you get desperate rumor has it there are doodes up your way that have a secret technique for filling bottles with nails and cement

BTW buying womens shoes seems kinda wrong, think I would rather suffer. Have you tried speedstars yet?

Why would I put you into stability when I haven’t even seen your foot. Unlike many I don’t fit over the web. Saying that a flat foot equals a need for stability is like saying blondes have more fun, I’ve met a lot of boring blondes.

In the not too distant past womens shoes were nothing more then small mens shoes in a narrower width (mens normal is a D while womens norm is a B so that is one difference other then color).

That is no longer the case for many options out there and that is a great thing, for women. Companies now make womens specific lasts to build their shoes on. They have actually studied the difference between mens and womens feet and now build a last to work for both. Womens have narrower heels, higher arches, a different arch length, different flex points. Midsole densities may vary, location of crash pads may vary.

Could you fit into a womens Pegasus 11.5 (44) maybe but I doubt you’ll like it from the sounds of your foot.

I’d try on a bunch that a professional fitter that can see your foot recommends. In the very least take a a look at some Saucony’s (ride or triumph or both pretty soft)

Thanks, I use a variety of Saucony’s in the warmer months…in winter when it is minus 15 or less and everything gets hard including the pavement, at least the air bag stays soft (assuming it is soft enough in the first place for one’s weight)…heading out to see if the local place has some old stock of AirMax 180’s :-).

should be great, will have to wait and see.
in the meantime I bought these: http://www.shoes54.com/product/2065_Nike_Air_Jordan_Retro_11_(XI)_Low_149.html
