I’ve been running in Air Pegasus since I was in H.S. and I have no real complaints. My feet don’t hurt in them or anything. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone who runs in these shoes has found another model or brand that is fairly equivalent in fit, cushion, etc. I am replacing one of my alternating pairs of shoes and thought I might try something different.
I found ASICS Gel Landreth to feel almost identical.
You know, I basically asked the same question 2 months ago about my pair of shoes and I ended up in the Nike Air Pegasus. I started with the New Balance 1061s. Try those out.
I use the Nike Pegasus as well…And have not found a better shoe for me. I have tried others but always go back to the pegasus!
The Pegasus works very well for me, too. I needed another pair and my shop didn’t have 'em so I tried on several shoes and found the Landreth. I swear, if I never looked at the shoes, I wouldn’t be able to tell which pair I was wearing. I’m happy with either/both.
I use the Pegasus as well. Tried other shoes a few times and always go back. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. For me the Pegasus has a perfect combination of fit, comfort, and durability that I have been unable to find in any other shoe I’ve tried. I wear them for virtually all my training, but not for races. The racing shoes have almost zero durability so that’s all I use them for.
Why mess with a good thing?
To tell you the truth, after trying on several pairs, I’ll probably end up with a new pair of Pegasus anyways, but I figured I’d ask so I can narrow down what I try on.

I’ve worn Pegasus for years and this year thought I would see if I could do better and think I have.
Try the Asics Cumulus, great fit, lightweight, flexible, and excellent cushioning.
Thanks for everyone’s input. I ended up with the Cumulus. They felt a little better under my forefoot than the new pair of Pegasus I tried, so I’ll give them a try and see how they feel.
The Brooks Glycerin 5 is very close to the Peg 2006.
I have been using pegasus for 4-5 years, but am now going through the process of trying to find another shoe. They have changed the shoe (last year I think), and it is not the same any more! There is a little “control” bridge in the middle now. apparently the stiffness of the midesole is also quite variable. I have done 3 calf muscles since the beginning of the year (both legs), and the podiatrist said it was the shoes, and a few other long term Pegasus users are having the same issue. Probably going asic 2010 at this stage - off the list of options I was given these are the best fitting/feel so far.
