But, hey, you found a poster who claimed his Kuat rack came loose ‘somehow’, so clearly it couldn’t be your fault. Inconceivable!
t wheel on my wife’s bike to come loose. Luckily we were going fairly slowly, so it was not damaged except for the (brand new) bar tape and a couple of minor scratches. We got the bike ready to go and she got her brick the next day, but I was very annoyed - it should not be possible for bikes to come loose like that!
Fake news, bro. Operator error. Shame on you for your negligence. You could have hurt someone.
He did not “find” a poster - I responded because I had a very similar issue happen just a week ago. Interesting that my story is claimed as “fake news” when you have essentially no information about what happened other than that there was a failure.
Here are some more details. I secured the front wheel with the articulating arm and pushed HARD on it - almost as hard as I could using one arm. For those not familiar with the design of these racks, the arm is supposed to ratchet down and NOT extend again until the release button is pushed. I am completely certain that the arm was pushed down hard, yet “somehow”, and I used that word because I don’t know how the failure occurred, the articulating arm, due to vibrations or rocking or some other mechanism, extended by several inches over the course of a long drive and slipped past the wheel, falling to a horizontal position and allowing the bike to come loose.
So the ratcheting mechanism either came loose or failed to grab in the first place. But neither of those things should happen.
