Next time you go for an open water swim in Panama City Bch

Take a look at the size of this!!! Watch the size comparison at the 24 sec mark.

I don’t care if the thing is harmless…its friggin’ huge!! I’m guessing over 30ft if the kayak is 14.

LOL…i just saw that video on Yahoo.

Heading to Singer Island, FL tomorrow…and was planning on some OW swims. Now I’ll have that image in my head!!!

Dayum that is a big fish.

aw hell no!

It’s just a basking shark. They feed on krill. Nothing to worry about.

Yep, I knew that. That thing swimming under me would still scare the poopoo out of me.

That is why sharks swim around us a while before they decide to snack. They think we taste better without all the poo inside us. As long as you hold it in, you’re good! lol

Have not been lucky enough to one of those or a whale shark. it would be awesome. Whale sharks are cooler- and MUCH larger.

I actually got to dive “near” a whale shark off Bonaire. It was awesome. But he was far enough away from us that it didn’t have the same effect of being this close.

I am sure my HR would spike if one came out of murky dark water at me. But they are harmless, even if you are wearing krill underwear.

Thats right down the street from my house. we did a 1.2mi swim there the next day. Just jelly’s to worry about, sometime sharks.

I was positive that he was going to eat that kayak.

I would definately poo my wetsuit if I saw that.

It would be hard not to panic in that situation.

Before I knew better than to swim at night in the ocean (pre Jaws) we were drunk , naked, and full of hormones swimming off the Gulf Shores, Alabama pier after midnight. Next  morning on my beach jog there was a 12 foot hammerhead that some dude hooked off the pier sitting on the beach for all the world to see. Caught it about an hour after our jolly friends were out of the water. Hmmmm. Last time I swam after dark in the gulf.

Got to dive with them in Hawaii… when you are in danger, you know! I was windsurfing out between Diamond Head and Kahana just having a rocking day and then got sick to my stomach all of the sudden and a “Get the BLEEP” outta here feeling.

Granted in wetsuits we look like seals, one of their favorite meals for the more aggressive ones… but swimming into a group of Man O Wars is more likely to kill you. Especially if you get stung in the head/face/neck and start to swell.

LOL, in 2007, the day after IMFL, I went swimming just down the beach from that pier in the St. andrews state park, I swam out pretty far and having a good time…That same day, somebody caught a shark like that off that same pier.

I have seen many hundreds of sharks from the air between Panama City and Pensacola. Used to fly with the Navy Search and Rescue helicopter all the time. Tons of sharks around there. Many days they were swimming between people, under rafts etc… No big deal.

I am on Singer Island for the week on Spring Break. Arrived Saturday night. Knocked out 60 on the bike yesterday and was looking at an OW swim from the beach in the afternoon. Was standing on the shore with my kids, goofing around. Look up and about 300 yds of shore I see a “Spinner” shark breach the water, spinning like mad, and go back under.

Put paid to my OW swim real quick…

And yeah, I “know” exactly what Mike said…the sharks are everywhere in FL and they really don’t give a cr@p about us. They are gonna do their best to avoid us. But still…that thought in the back of your head. Blech. But high tide was also rolling in so the OW swim would have been brutal. That was the primary reason I bailed. I’ll get out there at some point this week.

In the meantime, the weather SUCKS today (thunderstorms) and that is the prediction for the entire week. Fook me…
