Next developments in the Valerie Plame case

So, today the Time magazine reporter reversed himself and agreed to testify, rather than serve jail time. He indicated that earlier today he received direct communication from his source releasing him from his confidentiality agreement. He added that he knew the source had provided a general release (as all gov’t employees in the case did, perhaps under duress), but he needed a specific one, which he got.

The NYTimes reporter was ordered to be taken into immediate custody to begin serving her jail time (until the grand jury expires) in a DC area facility.

The prosecutor insisted that their testimony was necessary, even after the Time reporter’s notes were handed over.

This is all so bizarre. I suspect that there is some serious lying going on.

A lot of hot air, very little substance, and like you said; somebody’s lying. A lot.

T.

lying or the prosecutor is grandstanding.

He needs the investigation to remain open to keep the current job going.

More stuff on the Time reporter’s (Mr. Cooper) case:

"Mr. Cooper’s decision to drop his refusal to testify followed discussions on Wednesday morning among lawyers representing Mr. Cooper and Karl Rove, the senior White House political adviser, according to a person who has been officially briefed on the case. Mr. Fitzgerald was also involved in the discussions, the person said.

In his statement in court, Mr. Cooper did not name Mr. Rove as the source about whom he would now testify, but the person who was briefed on the case said that he was referring to Mr. Rove and that Mr. Cooper’s decision came after behind-the-scenes maneuvering by his lawyers and others in the case."

This, of course, doesn’t mean that Rove outed Plame to Cooper, only that Rove was a source for Cooper.

This is like one of those Saturday morning serials back in my father’s day. Can’t wait for the next development.
