anyone know how long/many miles these things last? (newton distance) thinking time to replace, knees getting a little sore…
People claim you can get 500 miles out of them. I can only get 300-350ish miles. I just retired a pair on Monday after 9-10 weeks of use. I tend to wear out the outside of the shoe and bottom part of the toe box just in front of the lugs. I also think the shoe starts to get flimsy after 200 miles and I find it really starts to break down after this point. Stilll love them though.
I’m going with “it depends”.
The heel of that shoe is all EVA (compared to the Gravity/Motion which have a rubberized heel), so if you have any kind of initial contact with the ground with the heel, it’s going to wear out much more quickly than if you’re more of a mid-foot strike upon initial ground contact. There are other factors that will also play a role, like your size/stature and unique qualities of your specific gait.
I’ve seen people get 600+ miles out of the Distance and I’ve also seen people go through them in <200 miles. If you think you can pinpoint the soreness in your knees to the amount of miles you’ve put on the shoes, then it’s probably time to replace and maybe think about getting the Motion or Gravity - I feel those will last a bit longer and give you more miles per dollar spent.
I got a ton of miles out of mine, over 500 it seemed.
I once emailed Newton a pic of mine to see if they were shot, they said that for the most part when the front part of the lugs is gone/faded into the sole of the shoe replace them (if that makes sense).
I’ve had 3 pair in the past. (I don’t use them anymore as I switched to Sauconys, but I did seem to get more distance out of Newtons vs other shoes I’ve tried).
I’m one of those that can get 600-700 on a pair. I’m on my third pair. What is wearing down? Post a couple of photos so we can see the wear pattern.
When the front of the lugs on the bottom are flatted so that there level with the bottom of the shoe it’s time to replace them. That was in a video somewhere on newton’s website and that’s what I’ve been going by for my newtons
cool, thanks gang. think i’ve got awhile to go. appreciate the feedback
I take mine to about 500 before I retire them. I am pretty conservative with when I retire my shoes though after taking a pair of Kinvaras too far and getting a foot injury. The little bit extra in shoe cost for the year is far easier to deal with than getting hurt.
I have a pair that have been relegated to Treadmill duty. I probably have 1000 miles on them.
I ran 1339.27 miles last year and I would say most of them were on these shoes.
Running 12 treadmill miles tonight on them tonight.
I put 500 on my first pair and they were not fully warn down yet at the front of the lugs. I’m coming up on 500 on my second pair and I’d venture to guess I can get another 200 before the lug wears down. I find that after 200 miles they really seem to work much better with my foot. neither pair seem broken down at all. I use superfeet insoles though so maybe I just don’t notice as much as a runner using the factory insoles.
I’ve got 830 miles on my current pair of Motions. The front of the lugs is getting pretty flush with the sole so I’m thinking of replacing them soon. I may still keep them around for treadmill or shorter runs.

x2 I wore them for about two years and around 600-700 seemed to be when get a new pair.
Agreed. That is what I use to measure. Eventually, the lugs (closer to the toes) wear down. When they are level with the base of the shoe, switch them out. I got 600 miles on my first pair of Gravities.
good info, thanks guys.
After about 200 mine were toast. I stopped buying them because they wore out so much faster than other shoes.
I weigh 190 lbs.
I put about 500mi into the Mv2, I just couldn’t part with them and didnt want to buy even more gear… I had 800mi in my first pair of Distance, now onto my next pair…
I also would say ‘it depends’
This can be due to your foot strike, type of running you do (treadmill, pavement, mixed), etc… Either way, I think they are a great shoe and I will continue to use the Distances and Mv2s

+3 I have had 4 pairs and have run 700+ miles on each. Frankly, my Distances I feel like I can run another 100 or so on them. They feel better then the day I bought them. I weigh 193.
I get between 500 and 850 on the distance. Regular shoe since '07 so I’ve had quite a few pair. The lower numbers are from blowing out the upper near the pinkie toe (wide feet). Weigh 250.
600-700 miles a pair
.
I have had 5 pair of gravity ( orange, red, blue, blue and new red). The newer model seems to last a bit longer but are also harder, but with all pairs when the shoe wears out you will know it within a run or two. You will have deadlegs that seemed out of proportion to the workout. the lugs are a good indicator of wear and I got around 350-400 mi out of the blue. I have 2 distance and they don’t quite last as long. If you heel strike at all you will shred the heel. Hope this helps.
