I need to travel up north in mid-July and United into Newark is by far the best option. Do we think the shitshow will have subsided by then? I know some of the issues are a longer term fix but want to avoid a day long delay if possible. Direct flight in and direct flight back. No worries about connecting flights.
Nope, it wont be corrected by then.
So flying in and out is a small gamble. But no connecting flights is good.
Dirty Harry would ask: do you feel lucky?
NYC has always been a shit show, this is just a new flavor. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever had an on time flight to NYC (granted most of those were to LGA)
You’re retired…take Amtrak for a change of pace.
LGA has been extensively remodeled and is up on various best-airports lists these days. So if you’re delayed, it’s a least a (more) pleasant place to be.
Newark’s issues are going to persist. And if you’re flying United, they’ve stopped a bunch of their flights there, so even worse.
Amtrak? From FL? Ain’t no one got time for that. I’ve taken enough Amtrak rides just between DC/NYC - and the trains are always delayed. Enough so, that I routinely opt for one train earlier than I need to take b/c there is likely to be a delay. Also, there’s a reason they call Amtrak’s wifi, why-try. Terrible.
I was scheduled to fly out of and into EWR tomorrow. United asked everyone to go elsewhere, so we changed to a more inconvenient PHL. The flight we were supposed to take (to ORD) has been on-time all week, as has the return flight. My guess is that if your flight is a popular one and is always sold out, it won’t get cancelled.
Nothing that is affecting EWR is likely to get fixed in a month.
Having said that, you should check out FlightAware to see what’s going on at a given airport. Right now, EWR shows a significant drop in arrivals (especially compared to PHL and LGA).
The convenience of getting to EWR on land far outweighs JFK and LGA, depending on your “final destination.” I wouldn’t have changed, but SWMBO insisted.
Good call.
