New world records in the 10k in Valencia by adidas athletes Rhonex Kipruto and Sheila Chepkirui

How much faster will they be in the Next%?

4%
.

This record was set in Adidas Takumi Sen 6, which is basically their version of the Nike cheaterflys. This has to stop now. this WR just passed the track WR.

Asics should just install mini pogo sticks on their shoes & be done with it
.

Maybe Asics could bing out the 4% socks so you don’t have to buy stupid expensive shoes to keep up with the equipment war.

What about a 110% socks?

How is it like the Nike? Isn’t it low stack, carbon-less, EVA shoe like all the others?

What should be stopped. Developing technology within rules set? Or do you mean change rules to to exclude these shoes or anything that would make you faster.

Not according to Lets Run:

Only the legendary Ethiopian duo Kenenisa Bekele (26:17.53) and Haile Gebrselassie (26:22.75) have recorded faster times on the track, while Paul Tergat holds the Kenyan 10,000m record at 26:27:85.

Yeah but that would be against his thesis that the Next% are the devil end of the world shoes. That running will never recover and except for the 4% and Next% shoes there have been no technological advances in shoes ever that have helped improve running time. Before these, shoes were the same for running as they were 100 years ago.

Fantastic achievement.

Imagine Adidas telling their athletes that they won’t continue their R&D because what Nike etc are doing is morally wrong! This is the way the world works. If your competitor develops a better product, you have to match or better that product in order to remain competitive.

Kinda on a side track, this leap in running shoe technology, and the subsequent tumbling of records is exactly why GOAT discussions/tags need to be generational. Just my 2cents.

It’s difficult to understate just how huge this is for Adidas. They needed their Olympians to not feel that they were going to Tokyo with a 4% disadvantage on Nike-sponsored runners. Without this I could actually see runners dropping their shoe contracts for fear it would cost them a medal.

In Tokyo all the track events are run with spikes. It is just the marathon where the shoes still matter, but Kipchoge will win no matter which shoes he wears.

You haven’t seen what Nike has been developing for track spikes have you?

I was going to say I thought I read they were incorporating the foam into track shoes. I doubt the stack will be that high because of the turns but they are still using it.

A few points:
Bekele went 2:01:41, only 2 seconds slower than Kipchoge’s WR. I think he may take umbrage to the claim that Kipchoge wins wearing concrete bootsI do wonder if there is not a potential track spike for distance races on track that leverages some of the benefits of the foam and carbon plate of the 4%. No one thought there was 4% benefit to be had out of shoes when Nike announced that initiative, so who is to say that at least some of that benefit cannot be made applicable to a track spike version of the shoe? Or maybe not? Track spikes already have a rigid plate and tracks themselves are effectively foam. Who knows. This kid is 20 years old.

I have never run in the nike shoes in question but I have run in Adidas for 25 years.
So is it the fact that the nike has the carbon plate that is the supposed benefit?
The Adidas Adios has had a very stiff midsole for quite some time, you really cant bend the shoe much which I suppose adds to propulsion?
I don’t know how stiff it is compared to the Nike but I know when they first started making them so stiff I was quite distraught thinking it would slow me down since I came from the day when racing flats were uber flexible.
Maybe adidas has covertly had this technology already?

Correction on my end this 10k beat his track 10k PR.

Let us not forget that recent slowtwitch article on adidas vs puma. It’s just a shoe race now, the times mean nothing. Placing does

I don’t understand the hatred towards modern running shoes these days. Do you consider deep carbon wheels and skinsuits to be cheating as well?

So is it the fact that the nike has the carbon plate that is the supposed benefit?

From what I’ve heard the carbon plate is mostly a marketing gimmick. It’s apparently the foam that really provides the propulsion
