Looking for a new wetsuit. Previously owned Orca and Tyr. Was happy with both.
What would you recommend for someone who fluctuates in weight, has a dad gut, and takes poor care of his suits 😂. Honestly I pulled mine out and forgot it was in my tri bag for the entire winter and still covered in mud. Obviously I would like to get better care of my stuff but when I’m tired and busy it gets forgotten.
Looking mostly at Xterra for price and ROKA for rep. De Soto is just too expensive. Hell even ROKA is but with discounts it kind of brings it down.
With gaining and losing weight and not wanting to take perfect care I would recommend a Good condition used DeSoto T1 two piece Probably find one for $200
.
Do you know what sizes you would be looking at? I may be selling a few well maintained used suits, and with De Soto you can mix and match a bit so you might be able to have 3 pieces which would meet all of your needs.
The smartest thing to do is buy several wetsuits and then try them on and buy the one that fits you the best. Sure you pay extra in shipping charges, but that’s a small price to pay for a wetsuit that fits well which also means you’re going to swim faster in it.
Why be slow (although if in M45-49 buy the worst fitting wetsuit! (pink))
Here is my post from a similar question a few days ago. I’ll add this. I’m a dad (45-49 AG), not a fast swimmer but I do swim in the lake twice per week starting in late-April and ending in early-October with an average distance of 1-2 miles so my wetsuit gets a lot of use (and abuse) and holds up well.
Synergy Wetsuits gets my 5-star vote. I spoke to an actual human when I called who asked me a lot of questions in an effort to get me in the right size the first time. Success! It was tough to put on and a very tight fit but after a few swims it broke in nicely. Then a year or two later, it got a tear in it so I called them to inquire on what I should do. They had me email them photos and then sent me a replacement within days. No questions asked, just great service. They are based in Nevada.
